History of the 115 Air Base<br />
In July 1939, the air base is inaugurated by<br />
Edouard Daladier, President of the Council and<br />
Deputy of Orange. From 1942 to 1944, the site<br />
was occupied by German forces before being<br />
almost destroyed during the Liberation battles.<br />
In 1945, creation of the 5th fighter wing. In<br />
March 1946, the annex of the Marignane test<br />
f<strong>light</strong>s moves there. From 1949 to 1951, the 5th<br />
fighter wing is in Indochina where it takes part<br />
to the battles of the Colonial Road #4 and the<br />
Delta in Tonkin. Once restored in 1950, the 115<br />
air base welcomes fighter wing 1/5 Vendée and<br />
its first air craft, the Vampire, upon its return<br />
from Indochina. In 1953, the fighter wing 3/5<br />
Comtat Venaissin is created and equipped with<br />
Vampires. Then, from 1956 to 1962, these air<br />
crafts are joined by the Mystère II, Mystère IV<br />
A and the Super Mystère B2. Pilots take part<br />
in the operations during the Algerian War.<br />
Three squadrons of T6G based in Betna and<br />
Mecheria operate in the Aures and in Southern<br />
A Mirage 2000 above the Provence landscapes with<br />
the Mont Ventoux in the background.<br />

Oran. From 1961 to 1966, the school and the<br />
Tout-temps 2/30 Normandie-Niemen fighter<br />
wing move to Fouga. In 1965, creation of the<br />
strategic bomber squadron 2/93 Cévennes,<br />
later known as the 3/91 Cévennes equipped<br />
with Mirage IV A. Other key dates have paced<br />
the history of the base, such as the creation in<br />
2008 of the Aeronautic Engineering Support<br />
Squadron. Then, in 2011, the transfer and<br />
assignment of the 05.067Alpilles helicopter<br />
squadron and the 00.341 Maurienne Training<br />
Centre for Helicopter Crews. The same year,<br />
the Fennec 70.560 control unit and continued<br />
airworthiness was created. 2015 marks the<br />
creation of the CPOCAA 24.566 following the<br />
merger of the Dijon EFCA 08.566 and Saintes<br />
CFME 00.325. The latter fills the inst<strong>all</strong>ations<br />
freed by the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment in<br />
the quartier Geille in Orange.
