The Belgian army<br />
is, a recalibration of the Belgian Special<br />
Forces’ capacity was essential.<br />
For this purpose, important investments<br />
were made at the command level<br />
by creating a joint Special Operations<br />
Command (SOCOM) and by transforming<br />
the staff of the Light Brigade<br />
into staff of the Special Operations Rein<br />

The strategic vision of Minister Steven Vandeput gives a large place to the<br />
area of special operations with the reinforcement of a special forces’ capacity<br />
implying a transformation within the Land Forces.<br />
Specialized in the area of the Para-Commando since the beginning of his<br />
military career in 1986, Colonel Tom Bilo climbed the ranks to take his place<br />
at the head of the Special Forces Group between 2011 and 2014. Since 2018,<br />
he is Deputy Commander of the Belgian SOCOM and took part in the launch<br />
of the latter. He tells us about the ch<strong>all</strong>enges of this mutation of the Belgian<br />
