Fanazava
Art Boisson
Herbal medicine has always been very
important in Madagascar. Among the many
plants with multiple qualities growing on the
island, there is Fanazava, a purifying plant.
D
etox remedies use plants to purify the
body, while improving the efficiency
of the immune system. Fanazava
is a medicinal plant, also known as
Mystroxylon aethiopicum. It is often used
to purify, particularly the kidneys and the liver. As it is
a detoxifier, Fanazava also contributes to preventing
cholesterol and gout. Among its many qualities, it
acts on the vascular system, improving
blood circulation.
Fanazava can now be found on
sale at medicinal plant markets,
in the form of little bags. It is
easy to prepare: just boil one
and a half litres of water for
one little bag, then leave to
stand for 10 minutes before
drinking. For maximum effect,
the infusion can be drunk
throughout the day. After taking
part in festivities, you are advised
to drink an infusion of the plant,
in order to accelerate elimination of
harmful fat ingested during the celebrations.
When Fanazava is infused together with Fanalasimba
and Takelibaha, the mixture, called Famelona, is
used as a remedy for hangovers. As Famelona is used
preventatively, it is to be drunk before partying.
You should always consult your doctor before
drinking the infusion – and never drink to excess!
