OMC 한국학교를 다녔던

나의 유년기

글, 사진_ Stacy Lee

My name is Stacy Lee and I currently live in New York City working

as a biotechnology consultant. For many of those who know me, one can say I

have an outgoing and ambitious personality. I studied Biology at Azusa Pacific

and was a collegiate athlete swimming for their NCAA DII team for two years.

I eventually returned to get my M.S in Biotechnology projected to graduate

summa cum laude in 2020. Outside of work I enjoy Crossfit and Olympic

lifting competitions, half marathons, and traveling. I live with a mantra of

always being better, whether this is pursueing knowledge, fitness, character

development or even just happiness.

The genesis of my ambition started at a young age, right at this church.

Growing up weekends were packed with activities centered around OMC,

Korean school, AWANA, volunteering and more. Looking back at these

activities, it is an understatement that attending Korean school has greatly

influenced my life. Not only are there significant clinical and brain development

benefits of being dual lingo, but it helps builds a foundation of confidence.

Integrated into the Korean school curriculum were speech competitions

where one would memorize a story in Korean and present it to audiences and

judges. From my recollection, points were graded on a system of presentation,

cadence, confidence and being able to convey the story. I fought my parents

every weekend on not going to go to these “useless” competitions and Korean

school. Now looking back, I am incredibly thankful for the persistent my

parents had. A significant portion of my job involves being client faced with the

biggest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the world. However,

nerve-racking this is, and it never gets easier, one simply gets better. Being a

great public speaker is a character asset that everyone should pursue to master

and develop. Due to my exposure of speaking at an incredible young age, I was

able to develop this skill through school and college.

I involve myself in activities that push my boundaries, and this drive

stems from the busy weekends as I had growing up. The influence these

activities had on my career and personal development is monumental. Trust me

when I say, however much your child fights you now on not wanting to attend,

they will grow up and thank you.
