Oasi del benessere
An oasis of Well-Being
Taking the cure, wellness and well-being are all terms
carved into the identity and history of Merano. In 1836,
accompanied by her personal doctor Johann Nepomuk
Huber, the Viennese noblewoman Mathilde von Schwarzenberg
travelled to Merano. The climate, mild even in
winter, was beneficial to her health, and Dr. Huber wrote
a short book extolling the therapeutic virtues of the
city, including the whey and grape cures. His work can
be considered as the founding act of tourism in Merano.
More and more guests began to stay here, and in 1870
Cure, wellness, benessere sono termini scolpiti nell’iden-
tità e nella storia di Merano. Nel 1836, accompagnata dal
suo medico personale dottor Johann Nepomuk Huber,
giunse a Merano la nobildonna viennese Mathilde von
Schwarzenberg.
the Empress Sissi arrived with her little daughter Marie
Valerie, who was not well. The city at that time had no
spring water (only in 1914 springs containing radon were
discovered), and therapy consisted of breathing in the
healthy mountain air. Following on from this tradition,
Merano today has evolved into an oasis of well-being,
where health goes hand-in-hand with pleasure and body
and soul can find the right degree of harmony. In summer
you can take a refreshing dip in the pools of the
Lido, while in winter there is the indoor Meranarena
In
pool, as well as the all-year round variety of the Terme
Merano hot baths, characterised by the cube of glass
designed by famous architect Matteo Thun. Covering an
area of 7,650 m 2 , there are 13 indoor pools, with 12 more
outdoor pools in the park, an extensive sauna area, a fitness
centre and the modern “Spa & Vital Center”, where
you can enjoy applications based on natural South Tyrolean
products such as apples, hay, whey and herbs.
Most hotels in Merano also offer comfortable facilities
dedicated to wellness and relaxation.
