Poesia contro le interminabili letture poetiche di massa
O la tirannia dei poeti in adunata
che assediano orecchie & muscoli della spalla
la lingua affilata schiocca nella mia mascella & la
testa duole.
Pesante subdola tortuosità
ne siamo imbottiti
& intruppati –
O le lunghe braccia sottili & le mille orecchie spalancate!
impiego ore intere a rilassarmi
/mani energiche che si contorcono sulla tovaglia,
& bevute anche se non lo farei altrimenti
/snervata e pallida
O saldate i vostri debiti prima d’imperversare
su di me,
Poeti!
in silenzio/ respirano gli angeli.
Originaria del New Jersey, Janine Pommy (n. 1942)
si è trasferita nel 1960 a New York, dove ha
incontrato Gregory Corso e frequentato gli ambienti
beat. Nel 1962 ha sposato l’artista peruviano
Fernando Vega, morto per overdose di eroina tre
anni dopo. La poesia, composta a San Francisco
nella primavera 1967, è inclusa nell’antologia al
femminile A Different Beat: Writings by Women of
the Beat Generation (1997).

Poem Against Endless Mass Poetry Readings
O the tyranny of assembled poets
beleaguering ears & the shoulder muscles
the blade cracks in my jaw & the
head pangs.
Heavy underhanded deviousness
Herding us in
& cramming us with it –
O the long thin arms & barrel clustered ears!
full hours it takes me unwinding
/stark hands on the tablecloth twitching,
& drinking even as I would not otherwise
/unnerved & pallid
O pay yr dues before ye lord it over
me,

Born in New Jersey, Janine Pommy (born in 1942) moved to New
York in 1960 where she met Gregory Corso and frequented the beat
circles. In 1962 she married the Peruvian artist Fernando Vega, who
died of overdose three years later. The poem, composed in San
Francisco in the spring of 1967, is part of the female anthology A
Different Beat: Writings by Women of the Beat Generation (1997).
