aveva inteso conferirle.
Attualmente, così come nell’antichità, si trova al
centro del paese, nella frazione omonima.
Si erge su un sagrato, dove dominano tre ingressi.
The Church of Saint Laurence and Saint Diodato
In San Lorenzo for centuries a chapel dedicated
to the martyr Lorenzo has existed but in the open
countryside. It was put under jurisdiction of the
Monastery of St.Angelo in Grotta of Nocera and the
Abbey of the Trinità di Cava.
Only in 1616 by initiative of the cleric Geronomo
Stile did the construction work of the oratory, with
the title of S. Lorenzo, begin in the built-up area of
the village.
In 1626 the title of Parish was given to the oratory
and on the 4th September that year Geronimo Stile,
with the act of the notary Tiberio Tortora, donated
a room and a house nearby, as well as land in the
locality of “Rondinella”, to the church and its Rector.
La chiesa è a tre navate, con un interessante altare
centrale in marmi policromi.
Tra le opere d’arte, dopo la perdita della tela di S.
Lorenzo, vanno segnalati gli affreschi dedicati al
Santo sulla copertura centrale.
However it was towards the end of the 1600s that the
new parish began to function quite regularly but it
needed to wait till the mid 1800s and the regency of
the parish priest don Salvatore Buoninconti so that
the church could assume the dignity that its founder
had intended.
In fact, as in early times, the church is in the centre of
the village bearing the same name.
It is erected on a church yard where three entrances
dominate.
The church has three naves with an interesting
central altar in multi-coloured marble.
Amongst the works of art, after the loss of the cloth
of San Lorenzo, are the frescoes dedicated to the
saint on the central covering.
