Cappella di Santa Maria della Misericordia
Della Cappella di S. Maria della Misericordia, detta
successivamente anche Cappella di S. Francesco,
oggi non resta che la facciata.
Fu edificata in esecuzione del testamento di Ottavio
de Fusco (un discendente del notar Gio. Loisio
de Fuscolis, che fu, agli inizi del 1500, il primo notaio
santegidiano e uno dei primi sindaci particolari
dell’Università), redatto dal notaio Gio. Lorenzo
Buoninconti, il 25 settembre 1623. La Cappella
della Misericordia, con la scomparsa degli eredi
della Famiglia de Fusco, appartenne alle famiglie
del notaio Geronimo Buoninconti e a quella del
dottor fisico Vincenzo Spagnuolo.
The Chapel of Holy Mary of Mercy
Only the facade still remains of the chapel of Holy Mary
of Mercy later known also as the Chapel of St. Francis.
It was built according to Ottavio de Fusco’s will which
was drawn up by the notary Gio. Lorenzo Buoninconti
on the 25th September 1623. The former was a descendant
of xxxxxx Gio. Loisio de Fuscolis who, at the
beginning of the 1500s, was the first public notary from
Sant’Egidio and one of the first distinctive syndicates of
the University. After the death of the heirs of the de
Fusco family, the Chapel of Mercy became patrimony of
the family of the notary Geronimo Buoninconti and the

ristrutturazione, perchè, nel 1721, il Vescovo Nicola
De Dominicis la dice “da poco edificata” e riporta
che il beneficiario era un tal Domenico Antonio
Attianese.
Dal 1777 al 1801 non vi si celebrarono più messe
a causa di una nuova precarietà strutturale del
suppenno. Nel 1831, tuttavia, la cappella fu trovata
in buone condizioni da mons. Francesco Saverio
Calenda.
Oltre al bel portale di ingresso, restano tracce di affreschi
di santi nelle nicchie laterali della facciata.

In 1710 it resulted destroyed but was subject to restauration
because in 1721 Bishop Nicola De Dominicis said
it had been “recently built” and named the beneficiary
as a certain Domenico Antonio Attianese.
From 1777 to 1801 masses were no longer celebrated
in the chapel because of the new precariousness of the
structure of the “suppeno”.
In 1831, however, the chapel was found to be in good
condition by Monsignor.Francesco Saverio Calenda.
Besides the beautiful entrance way there are still some
frescoes of saints in the side niches of the facade.
