Gli agrumi.
Sono il prodotto più conosciuto e che, fino a pochi
decenni fa, ha meglio rappresentato il nome
di Sant’Egidio.
Furono impiantati tra la fine del 1700 e gli inizi del
1800 per iniziativa di alcune famiglie del Capoluogo
(come i Calabrese e i Ferrajoli) che, per tale
operazione, si avvalsero dellíopera di “specialisti”,
come i Parlato ed i Savarese, fatti venire appositamente
dalla penisola sorrentina.
In effetti, l’impianto di agrumi, già presenti in
costiera, si rivelò un’opera di grande intuito
commerciale per due ragioni: la prima, perchè

The best-known products which, until a few decades
ago, best represented the name of Sant’Egidio. They
were planted between the end of the 1700s and the
beginning of the 1800s by initiative of some of the
families of the town (like the Calabrese and Ferrajoli)
that employed “specialists”, like the families Parlato
and Savarese from the Sorrentine Peninsular, for this
work. Infact the plantation of citrus trees, already
present on the coast, proved to be an intuitive bu-

la conformazione del terreno ha dato vita ad un
prodotto di eccezionale qualità molto richiesto
sul mercato.
Delle tre varianti presenti (arancio, limone e
mandarino) va segnalato, per le sue qualità
vitaminiche, adatto anche per la realizzazione di
confetture, l’arancio biondo (cosiddetto “biondo
comune”) che, grazie alla sapiente opera degli
agricoltori locali, riesce a conservarsi sull’albero
anche ad agosto inoltrato.
