We travelled by plane, boat,
car and train, on paved roads and country paths, sailing
up rivers by boat and crossing icy lakes, loosing our way in
the traffic and chaos of big cities, and in the infinite silence
of the steppe.
We travelled through an immense county that is different
from everywhere else, a country of vast geographical distances,
with a history and culture that spans the ages.
In this account of our travels we have tried to make our
own tiny contribution to furthering knowledge about this
bolshoj – great – country.
