ture, introduced with other molluscs for farming or
with shipping (Zenetos et al., 2003). The species, C. fornicata,
M. arenaria are recorded in the around of the
Saronikos Gulf (Delamotte & Vardala-Theodorou, 2001;
Zenetos et al., 2003, 2004b), the same area of our finding,
or P. pholadiformis from Ewoikos Gulf. According
to Zenetos et al. (2003), the presence of these species in
this region, in the vicinity of the Piraeus port, is related
more to shipping as there are no marine farming activities
nearby.
For these raisons we think that our record of C. litteratum,
based on a single shell, should be considered as occasional
and probably due to shipping. Further research,
carried out in the area of Saronikos Gulf, could
be helpful to understand if Aegean populations of this
species really exist and to eventually valuate their establishment
success.

segnalazioni riguardano specie non stabilizzatesi, introdotte
per colture, importate accidentalmente insieme a
molluschi utilizzati nelle attività d’acquicoltura o emigrate
grazie al traffico navale (per il meccanismo noto
come “shipping”) (Zenetos et al., 2003). Nel particolare,
le specie, C. fornicata e M. arenaria sono state segnalate
nei pressi del Golfo Saronico (Delamotte & Vardala-
Theodorou, 2001; Zenetos et al., 2003, 2004b), la medesima
area del nostro ritrovamento, mentre il taxon P. pholadiformis
è stato rinvenuto nel Golfo Euboico. Relativamente
a queste specie, segnalate nelle vicinanze del
porto del Pireo (area priva dell’attività d’acquicoltura),
l’introduzione pare molto probabilmente legata al traffico
navale (Zenetos et al., 2003). Pertanto, riteniamo che
anche la presenza mediterranea di C. litteratum, basata
su una sola conchiglia, sia dovuta a “shipping” e debba
ritenersi occasionale. Solamente ulteriori ricerche, eseguite
nell’area del Golfo Saronico, potrebbero aiutare a
comprendere l’effettiva presenza di popolazioni attribuibili
a questa specie e di valutarne l’eventuale grado
di stabilità.
