Therefore, older records ofspecies quoted below (2, 3, 5) must be considered as unreliablewithout checking of the relevant material.1 Sylvicola cinctus (Fabricius, 1787)New record for Madeira: Chao, laurel forest, 1997-1998,numerous specimens, Dora Aguin Pombo leg. (Laurissilvaproject), University of Madeira and Museum of Funchal.2 Sylvicola fenestralis (Scopoli, 1763)Older records exist for this species from Spain (Seebold, 1903,Strobl, 1906, Fuente y Morales, 1926), Portugal and Açores(Séguy, 1936).3 Sylvicola fuscatus (Fabricius, 1775)Older unreliable records from Spain by Martorell i Peña(1879) and Antiga (1888).4 Sylvicola oceanus (Frey, 1949)This very distinctive endemic species was overlooked byKrivosheina (1986a) in the Catalogue of Palaearctic Dipteraand is not mentioned in the key by Krivosheina & Menzel(1998).5 Sylvicola punctatus (Fabricius, 1787)Older unreliable records from Spain by Martorell i Peña(1879) and Antiga (1888).It is very likely that all four species recorded from continentalIberic peninsula do occur in the 3 considered countries. Theirapparent absence is most probably only due to lack of collecting.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSWe are pleased to thank Dora Aguin Pombo, University ofMadeira for submitting material from Laurissilva Project Madeira, and Miguel Carles-Tolrá, Barcelona for his appreciated help withpoorly known literature.BIBLIOGRAFIAGeneral: HAENNI (1997b) [key for the identification], KRIVOSHEI-NA & MENZEL (1998) [key for the identification], MICHELSEN(1999) [taxonomy].España: ANTIGA (1888), ARIAS ENCOBET (1912a), CARLES-TOLRÁ(2001i), FUENTE Y MORALES (1926), MARTORELL Y PEÑA (1879),SEEBOLD (1903), STROBL (1906).Portugal: CARLES-TOLRÁ (2001i), SÉGUY (1936).Andorra: CARLES-TOLRÁ (2001i), DURAN-ALARCÓN et al.
