Therefore, older records ofspecies quoted below (2, 3, 5) must be considered as unreliablewithout checking of the relevant material.1 Sylvicola cinctus (Fabricius, 1787)New record for Madeira: Chao, laurel forest, 1997-1998,numerous specimens, Dora Aguin Pombo leg. (Laurissilvaproject), University of Madeira and Museum of Funchal.2 Sylvicola fenestralis (Scopoli, 1763)Older records exist for this species from Spain (Seebold, 1903,Strobl, 1906, Fuente y Morales, 1926), Portugal and Açores(Séguy, 1936).3 Sylvicola fuscatus (Fabricius, 1775)Older unreliable records from Spain by Martorell i Peña(1879) and Antiga (1888).4 Sylvicola oceanus (Frey, 1949)This very distinctive endemic species was overlooked byKrivosheina (1986a) in the Catalogue of Palaearctic Dipteraand is not mentioned in the key by Krivosheina & Menzel(1998).5 Sylvicola punctatus (Fabricius, 1787)Older unreliable records from Spain by Martorell i Peña(1879) and Antiga (1888).It is very likely that all four species recorded from continentalIberic peninsula do occur in the 3 considered countries. It was later recordedfrom Peninsular Spain (Rio Lanjarón) by Pecina (1971) butthis record may probably refer to another species, since malegenitalia figured by Pecina obviously differ from those ofBalearic specimens of B. gineri. An authentic record fromPeninsular Spain is: Malaga, Torcal de Antequera, 31.III.1984, 1 male, J.–P. Haenni, Muséum d'Histoire naturelleNeuchâtel (MHNN).2 Bibio hortulanus (Linnaeus, 1758)Bibio hortulanus var. siculus Loew 1846 recorded fromPeninsular Spain by Strobl (1906) is considered here as a merevariety of hortulanus, although Krivosheina (1986) gave itspecific status. A thorough revision of the complex of Bibiohortulanus over its whole range of occurrence will be necessarybefore the taxonomic status of the varieties described byDuda (1930) can be ascertained. The records of Bibio hortulanusvar. siculus from Canarias should refer to B. elmoi (seeBáez, 1984).B. hortulanus was recorded from Baleares by Moragues(1894), an unreliable paper, but a new record from Mallorcais: Arenal, 28.III.1956, 1 male, L. Bigot, NaturhistorischesMuseum, Basel (NHMB).3 Bibio lanigerus Meigen, 1818The old record by Moragues (1894) from Mallorca is unreliable,although the species may well be present in the Baleares.4 Bibio marci (Linnaeus, 1758)The records of this species from Canarias should refer to B.elmoi (see Báez, 1984).5 Bibio varipes Meigen, 1830There is only one old record of this species from Ciudad Real(Arias, 1912b).6 Bibio venosus Meigen, 1804The old record from Bilbao by Seebold (1903) remains theonly precise quotation from Spain for this unmistakablespecies.7 Dilophus antipedalis Wiedemann in Meigen, 1818The synonymy of andalusiacus Strobl with antipedalisWiedemann in Meigen established by Haenni (1982) wasoverlooked by Krivosheina (1986b) in Catalogue of PalaearcticDiptera.New record for Baleares: Mallorca, Pas d’Escassi, 1.IV. 1992,1 female, C. Bijleveld, Muséum d'Histoire naturelle Neuchâtel(MHNN).8 Dilophus febrilis (Linnaeus, 1758)There is an old record (under the junior name vulgaris Meig.)from Mallorca in the unreliable paper by Moragues (1894).
