The possibility of a secondspecies of Haematobia occurring in the Canary Islands goesback to Becker (1908: 111; see also Frey, 1936: 137), but norecent material has been collected.9 Neomyia Walker, 1859= Orthellia Robineau–Desvoidy, 186310 Stomoxys calcitrans (Linnaeus)The Afrotropical species Styomoxys niger Macquart, 1851,was recorded from the Canary Islands by Séguy (1935: 32),but this record has not been repeated nor has it subsequentlybeen accepted, and it is presumably a misidentification ofcalcitrans.11 Brontaea Kowarz, 1873= Gymnodia Robineau–Desvoidy, 1863, preocc.12 Phaonia errans (Meigen)Recorded from Spain by Strobl (in Czerny & Strobl, 1909b:237). These records probably refer to mediterranea, but it isextremely likely that errans occurs in the north of Spain.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSACP thanks the curators of many European museums, but mostespecially Dr Verner Michelsen of the Zoological Museum,
