For additional synonymy occurring onlyin the posthumous work of Santos Abréu (1976), we refer toMichelsen & Báez (1985). Synonyms are of two categories.Available names (those followed by author name(s) and date) arelisted first, while misapplied, emended or misspelled names, ornames provided with a different rank (names followed by ‘auct.’)are listed second. Obvious inadvertent errors in spelling of namesare followed by ‘[sic]’. An underlined ( _ ) area code indicates anew record.Voucher specimens for most of the new and old species/arearecords are deposited in the Zoological Museum, University ofCopenhagen (ZMUC). Supplementary material examined waskindly provided by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle,Paris (MNHN), Museum für Naturkunde, Humboldt–Universitätzu Berlin (MNHU), Marcos Báez, La Laguna, Tenerife, MiguelCarles–Tolrá, Barcelona and Dora Aguin Pombo (ProjectoLaurisilva), Madeira. Special thanks go to Michael Ackland,Oxford for adding one species (Botanophila monacensis) andsome records to the list, and to Adrian Pont, Oxford for criticalreading of the manuscript.1 Adia Robineau–Desvoidy, 1830= Anthomyia auct.= Anthomyia (Chortophila) auct.= Chortophila auct.= Hylemyia auct.= Paregle auct.2 Alliopsis Schnabl & Dziedzicki, 1911= Paraprosalpia Villeneuve, 1922= Anthomyia (Chortophila) auct.3 Anthomyia Meigen, 1803= Craspedochoeta Macquart, 1851= Melinia Ringdahl, 1929= Anthomyia (Anthomyia) auct.= Chortophila auct.= Craspedochaeta auct.= Hylemyia auct.4 Anthomyia pluvialis (Linnaeus, 1758)No authentic material from Azores was seen during the presentstudy.5 Botanophila Lioy, 1864= Pegohylemyia Schnabl, 1911= Anthomyia (Phorbia) auct.= Chortophila auct.6 Calythea Schnabl & Dziedzicki, 1911= Anthomyia auct.= Anthomyia (Anthomyia) auct.7 Delia Robineau–Desvoidy, 1830= Anthomyia auct.= Anthomyia (Phorbia) auct.= Chortophila auct.= Hylemyia auct.8 Delia antiqua (Meigen, 1826)No authentic material from peninsular Spain was seen duringthe present study.9 Pandellé (1900: 285) described Anthomyia (Chortophila)nasutula from the female from Hautes Pyrénées (France) andGenthin (Germany). The only extant specimen in Coll.Pandellé (MNHN, Paris) is here designated as lectotype inorder to ensure a consistent future application of the name. Itis labelled ‘? 2165’ and ‘Chortophila nasutula’. The lectotypebelongs to a species of Delia. D. nasutula (Pandellé, 1900),comb.n., is a senior synonym of D. aconiti (Ringdahl, 1948),syn.n., described from the Alps. A series of males and femalesof the same species from Spain, Lérida: Valle de Arán(ZMUC, Copenhagen) leaves no doubt that the lectotype camefrom Hautes Pyrénées and that the Genthin specimen(s) musthave belonged to a different species.10 Delia radicum (Linnaeus, 1758)No authentic material from the Balearic Islands was seenduring the present study.11 Pandellé (1900: 232) described Anthomyia (Hydrophoria)
