ENGLISH TRANSLATION capable of guaranteeing breathability and a very low likelihood of vexing pilling. Woolyarns is a company that devotes considerable resources to research and development when it comes to its winter yarns. Iafil is a cotton manufacturer, capable of producing excellent cotton-based yarns. With the signing of this agreement we have given greater weight and structure to our winter collection. Woolyarns has found someone who can position it in the upper end area of the marketplace with credibility and this is its target. Together we will be able to have a more complete idea of all the possibilities offered by this wonderful yarn, boasting a host of unique technical properties.” The sweaters made from Perino by Woolyarns yarns feature a fabric that actually breathes. The Brushtail Possum fibers boast a comples structure, composed of an inner part (the cortex) which holds water and an external part (the cuticle). The distinctive conformation of the fiber, featuring a hollow structure, provides natural transpiration qualities, which, along with the natural water-repellent properties, improve the sense of comfort for the wearer of any garment made from this remarkable material. Garments made from this material display perfect thermal insulation capacity as the air trapped inside the hollow Brushtail Possum fibers ensure elevated levels of insulation, keeping the body temperature constant without compromising the transpiration properties of the garments being worn. The knit fabric thus optimizes the human body’s natural heat-regulating abilities, thus promoting an enhanced sense of well-being. Independent tests have demonstrated that the Brushtail Possum fibers are actually 55% warmer than Merino wool and 35% warmer than cashmere fabrics of the same weight and knit structure. The yarns produced by Perino and Woolyarns are extremely soft. This is due to the uniquely tapered woolen fibers of the Brushtail Possum, which measure a mere 1-2 microns at the tip: a measurement that is a far cry from the 30 microns established by Australia’s own Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) as the safe threshold for not causing itching when in contact with human skin. They also display high resistance to pilling: as a matter of fact, the individual fibers of the remarkable Brushtail Possum wool feature a rounded scale structure which enables them to delicately overlay one another rather than catching against one another and thus causing pilling. Perino is a yarn that vaunts high levels of environmental sustainability, a value that is fundamental in a country like New Zealand, famous for its green reputation. And this commitment is enthusiastically shared by Iafil, which has been carrying out sustainable manufacturing practices for years as an integral part of its unflagging quest for quality. The Perino by Woolyarns yarns, like all the fine products in the winter collection of Iafil, are available on a Stock Service basis, with ample warehouse facilities at the company’s Milan plant in order to satisfy all the needs and requirements of its customers during the period when they are developing their collection. They are broken down into 3 product lines: Cirrus: 40% cashmere, 40% Brushtail Possum, 20% Mulberry silk. Nm 2/28 (13 colors) and 2/36 (5 colori). For the winter season this exclusive yarn has seen a repositioning of its color range, with a focus on more classic, timeless tones in a palette that also offers light and luminous colors thanks to a de-coloring operation prior to dyeing the fine Brushtail Possum wool (naturally grey), a technique which has made it possible to achieve the more subtle, soft nuances requested by the world of fashion. Nimbus: 65% fine merino, 25% Brushtail Possum, 10% Mulberry silk. Nm 2/28 (20 colors) and Nm 2/18 (8 colors). Along with the most classic colors, the chromatic palette also includes bright, sporty tones, perfect for youthful and athliesure accessories. Alto: 70% merino ZQ, 30% Brushtail Possum. Nm 2/28. With its Merino ZQ blend, Alto demonstrates itself to represent a further step toward the goal of sustainability and traceability: indeed, Merino ZQ is produced in New Zealand in compliance with specific, certified protocols which emphasize the well-being of the animals, the quality of the environment and social sustainability. A perfect synthesis of the sort of quality, sustainability and credibility associated with New Zealand, its values and reputation in the world. FIBERS & YARNS (on page 310) FILMAR A COLOURFUL WORLD Young fashion designers from all over the world proudly presented their seasonal chromatic palettes, using the Colorama web app Filmar is a company with a solid past, but it is focused on quality and technological innovation, goals which are pursued in compliance with the principals of sustainable and ethical development. In keeping with this worthy goal, the company has introduced the Colorama Award, a competition intended to inspire and encourage young design and fashion students from all over the world when it comes to the development of innovative, trendy color projects. The chromatic combinations for fall-winter 18/19 were created thanks to Filmar’s pioneering Colorama application, a free, modern and extremely user-friendly service which boasts the added advantage of constituting low environmental impact. It was created by Filmar for those who use it yarns, people who may access the web app from the Filmar site and then proceed to elaborate their color combinations for knit and hosiery products. A huge number of proposals were received, demonstrating the intense commitment on the part of the young people in the task of creating original color combinations and moodboards. From among these outstanding students, the panel of judges, composed of Barbara Pietrasanta, Eleonora Fiorani, Sara Magro, Nicola Luccarini and Marco Marzoli, the managing director of Filmar, selected as the winner of the competition was the Denmark’s Design Kolding School, with a project by Maria Viftrup. The presentation of the award took place during the course of the recent di Pitti Filati 81 fair. The competition’s winning chromatic proposal had been inspired by the realm of bioplastics, algae, fungus and bacteria, a rich and promising universe, destined to become fundamental for the sustainable development of humanity. Experiments with these cutting-edge materials has led to the discovery of unprecedented new colors and previously untried combinations, the exciting tones that constitute a palette that is organic, original and futuristic all at the same time. Currently, Filmar is eagerly gearing up for the launching of the second edition of the Colorama Award.
