SPACE AND TIME

"There are no facts, only interpretations". This statement by Friedrich
Nietzsche, contained in the posthumous fragments, means that there are no
pure facts, but only interpreted facts: the fact which is present to the
conscience of humanity, man is an interpretation. Facts exist, but to know
them we use a language, which is a convention, an interpretation.
Any use of language is an interpretation and we have remarkable examples
of how misleading the language is. Everyone of us is well aware of how it is
linked to emotions and consequently to considerable variations of nuance
and how no words can be free from misunderstanding.
The body language itself, which is in many ways more effective than the
words and is its essential corollary, gives rise to interpretations that differ
from culture to culture. 1
Among the interpretations, the haiku is the most faithful to the pure fact. In
some ways, the haiku re-balances Apollonian (harmony, balance of forms)
and Dionysian (the instinctive element, creative passion, the overcoming of
the individual self), bypassing rationality, while taking into account the
formal characteristics, to merge with the moment of perception that
substantiates the event perceived and seized beyond consciousness.
