SUMMARY
UPB holding (UPB) is a major Latvian construction
company and manufacturer of building materials. It
comprises over 30 dynamic and highly professional
companies with a growing consolidated turnover of
over 78 million lats (110 million euro) (2007) and
a 17-year experience in Latvia and beyond it. The
companies within the Holding are independently
operating groups, the largest of which are the

IN LATVIA
A new building of Užavas Brewery in Ventspils
District has been commissioned.
AILE group has started operation on stage III of the
shopping mall ALFA in Riga and the building of the
branch of the bank HANSABANKA in Valmiera.
Two major projects have been completed at the UPB
ENERGY production facility in Liepāja.
Manufacture and installation of pre-fabricated concrete
structures for the Daugavpils Olympic Centre
and Krāslava sewerage systems are in progress, the
implementer being the DAUGAVPILS DZELZ-
SBETONS plant.
Stiklu Centrs commissioned its third plant.
A new tiles and sanitary equipment selling centre is
under construction for H&L STUDIJA in Liepāja.
1 PLUS 1 STUDIJA is one of the most recent UPB
companies, proud to employ young architects Mārtiņš
PĪLĒNS and Moritz AGNE - the graduates of
the Weimar University (Germany).
ŠTEIN LIFTI installs various lifting equipment in
the office building of the public transportation company
Rīgas Satiksme.

BIROJS is been engaged in the designing of a universal
standard hangar project and a new standard
pre-fabricated concrete panels for houses.
ABROAD
For the second time UPB experts participated in the
international construction exhibition Construct
North 2008 in Iceland.
In February, UPB specialists participated in the international
construction exhibition that took place
for the twelfth year in round – KievBuild 2008 in
Ukraine.
OTHER NEWS
In early April, UPB participated in the Riga Technical
University’s project Career days 2008.
The STABILITĀTE Foundation grant competition
for the academic year 2008/2009 has been announced.
The STABILITĀTE Foundation has been
supporting students for six years in round.
The international AILE JAZZ festival was held between
April 11 and 26.
Up to May 20, the UPB exhibition gallery at Dzintaru
iela 19, Liepāja, hosts the solo exhibition of paintings
by Ģirts Muižnieks called GLEZNAS.

Heady winds of the Liepāja Jazz spring

The annual AILE JAZZ festival is over. Run for the
third time now, it has become better organized and
of higher quality with every time. Fortunately, its organizers
have not stopped at their self-contentment,
but are now thinking of what they are going to do to
make the next festival even more attractive. One has
to consider the issue of larger audience in traditional
concert venues in Liepāja as in 2008, there were concerts
so overcrowded that not all who wanted were
able to attend just because it was booked out long
before the opening of the festival.

Dolls and flies a la Muižnieks

Up to May 20, the UPB Art Gallery in Liepaja hosts
the solo exhibition Gleznas of the painter Ģirts
Muižnieks.
The exhibition features both, earlier work and
paintings not exhibited so far, partly continuing the
theme launched by the art festival Cēsis 2007, which
focused on the image of the doll Bebe Jumeau. Another
object of the artist’s interest is… an ordinary fly.
