In Mechelen, the activities of Cochlear consist of European research, development and production, EMEA training and sales and marketing in the Benelux region. Altogether an enthusiastic team
of 90 people that is committed to delivering technology leadership, which sets standards in all our products. Our production clean room is in full preparation for starting the first series of a new
type of hearing implant. This implies development of state-of-the-art products, installation of reliable processes, and high precision measurement.

Network
Administrator
Europe
Your responsibilities
• To maintain and support the European LAN/WAN/WLAN
environment, which is the lifeline of approx. 400 users in
8 European offices and in the field.
• To monitor and administer Cochlear’s IT security systems
which includes firewalls, proxies, anti-virus, webhosting,
webmail, FTP, DNS, VPN connections, domain
registrations.
• To provide an effective interface between users and
external service providers by supplying all necessary
diagnostic information and keeping up-to-date network
system documentation.
• To liaise with the European server administrator and
act as his holiday replacement in all activities relating
to all server based services in Europe (which includes
managing all European physical and virtual servers, SANs,
back-up and file restore, server monitoring, server room
environmental monitoring and critical server patching).
• To assist in the management of and configuration of
Cochlear’s European phone systems.
Your profile
• Proven ability to install, support and maintain network
operating systems and IT security applications.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Network Engineer
in a medium to large multinational and multi-site
organization in Europe.
• Cisco technological knowledge level equivalent
to CCNA/CCNP and ITIL V3 Certifications.
• Profound understanding of Server administration
(Windows/Unix & VMWare).
• Customer focused and persistent to ensure issues
are resolved to user satisfaction.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and
preferably at least in one of the other European
languages (in writing and verbal).
• Occasional travel to the European offices is a must
(estimated 20% of your time).
Embedded
Software Engineer
Your responsibilities
• To develop safety-critical firmware on the new
implantable Cochlear platform that will address
unmet needs.
• To implement, document and verify algorithms
in C or assembly language.
• To work with state-of-the-art development tools
for achieving exceptional quality.
• To engage with the collaborative team culture,
share ideas and experiences; work in an open team spirit.
• To collaborate with other departments to understand
the user and business needs and translate this into
firmware activities.
• To provide technical support and troubleshooting
assistance to help resolve customer issues.
Your profile
• University degree or equivalent in Software or
Electronics Engineering.
• Working experience of C and assembly languages (80251)
for embedded systems.
• Experience with hardware and ASIC development (VHDL).
• Strong interest in medical device development or safetycritical
applications and associated quality regulations.
Senior
Software
Developer
Your responsibilities
• To develop application code within an Agile development
framework based on industry best practices.
• To develop software drivers in C++.
• To develop application code in C# in a .NET/WPF
environment.
• To use the above to create applications that focuses on
exceptional quality and user-centric design principles.
• To engage with the collaborative team culture, share
ideas and experiences, and be open and available to
the suggestions of others in the team.
• To collaborate with other departments to ensure a
credible understanding of the user and business needs
and translate this into high quality software.
• To act as a mentor to junior team members and assume
a personal responsibility for the success of the team.
• To drive improvements to our products and processes.
• To provide technical support and troubleshooting
assistance to help resolve customer issues.
Your profile
• Master in software engineering or equivalent with 5 years
of experience in a full lifecycle commercial software
development environment.
• Good knowledge of object oriented software
development.
• Experience with C++, C# and with developing Windows
desktop client applications.
• Familiar with Agile development environments and scrum.
DSP Engineer
Your responsibilities
• To develop products that process sound with exceptional
quality for our hearing implant users.
• To develop signal processing algorithms on the new
implantable Cochlear platform that will address unmet
needs.
• To implement, document and verify signal-processing
algorithms in assembly, C, MATLAB and Simulink.
• To engage with the collaborative team culture, share ideas
and experiences, work in an open team spirit.
• To collaborate with other departments to understand
the user and business needs and translate this into
signal-processing.
• To provide technical support and troubleshooting
assistance to help resolve customer issues.
Your profile
• University degree or equivalent in electronics engineering
with ± 5 years of experience in audio signal processing
• Knowledge of acoustics.
• Programming experience with DSPs.
• Knowledge of simulation environments (MATLAB,
Simulink), common PC programming languages (C, C++)
and script languages (Python).
• Experience in DSP development for hearing aids is
a strong asset.
Senior
System Engineer
Your responsibilities
• To contribute to product development through the
application of system engineering practice and expertise.
• To resolve and communicate system level design decisions
to ensure products are delivered on time and to a high
quality level.
• To deliver holistic solutions for the customer through
interactions with international cross-functional teams.
• To develop and manage system requirements
and requirements traceability.
• To direct and participate in design reviews.
• To plan and manage the product systems integration
including release planning and documentation,
product verification and validation of new products.
• To diagnose and identify product issues through root
cause analysis.
• To improve Cochlear’s system engineering capability
by training others in new practices, methods and tools.
Your profile
• University degree or equivalent in engineering
with a few years of experience.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering principles,
methods and tools that are appropriate for the
development of medical and/or consumer electronics
devices.
• Significant experience in engineering design and
verification, preferably with software or firmware
controlled electro-mechanical products.
• A plus would be experience in the area of
audio signal processing.
• Project management skills (preferably PMI)
are also an asset.
