De voetballers van Staatsolie kwamen in de finale uit tegen Telesur en eindigden
op de tweede plaats.
Staatsolie were in the soccer finals against Telesur and ended second.
The Staatsolie sports people made a rapid start by winning the swimming event. Extra
effort and performance awarded Staatsolie the volleyball championship. For the finals
in volleyball Staatsolie faced EBS. It was an exciting match. The Staatsolie team was
cheered on by a brass band, which caused quite a commotion. The Staatsolie teams
also performed well in soccer, trumps, indoor football, baseball and basketball.
Staatsolie’s representations on the CTSS-Plus organizing committee were Earl Hek
and Sharon Kuhn. Staatsolie was in charge of the PR for the event. ‘It was a pleasant
and very exciting task as we had to get the final scores immediately after every
match. I felt proud to see how good our sports people are. They were enthusiastic and
they have made extraordinary efforts. Many of our sports people are seasoned athletes,
a fact which decided our ranking. As Staatsolie representatives we’ve had two
special moments, to wit winning the swimming and the volleyball events’, says Earl a
rookie on the organizing committee.
To volleyball player Deborah Fränkel-Leckie it was a positive experience to participate
in the CTSS-Plus 2011. ‘It was fun to be on the playing field again with colleagues
after four years. We had a seasoned volleyball team and we were very good together.
Our achievement is underscored by the fact that we always carried out coach Winston
Arichero’s orders.’
To Kelvin Isselt it was an extraordinary achievement to win the swimming event for the
third consecutive time. ‘It’s a great feeling to become champion of the first event of the
tournament!’
The tournament was officially closed on 5 November with the prize-giving ceremony
and an after party.
