Abstract
Articular cartilage repair remains a clinical challenge.
Besides the relatively simple microfracturing technique,
the autologous osteochondral transplantation (OAT) and
the autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) remain
viable treatment options. There is no consensus as to which
technique may possibly be superior to another. More likely,
the different techniques all remain valuable treatment
options and more attention should be focused on proper
patient selection for each separate technique. The patient
selection for OAT is discussed and limitations are described.
In addition, good clinical results are presented from osteochondral
transplantion in prospective follow-up of a
selected subgroup of patients.
