Abstract<br />
Articular cartilage repair remains a clinical challenge.<br />
Besides the relatively simple microfracturing technique,<br />
the autologous osteochondral transplantation (OAT) and<br />
the autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) remain<br />
viable treatment options. There is no consensus as to which<br />
technique may possibly be superior to another. More likely,<br />
the different techniques all remain valuable treatment<br />
options and more attention should be focused on proper<br />
patient selection for each separate technique. The patient<br />
selection for OAT is discussed and limitations are described.<br />
In addition, good clinical results are presented from osteochondral<br />
transplantion in prospective follow-up of a<br />
selected subgroup of patients.<br />
