Após um ano e meio afastado do Acre, o sertanista José
Carlos Meirelles retorna, em companhia do antropólogo
Terri de Aquino, à região do Paralelo 10 Sul, fronteira
com o Peru. A equipe viaja com eles durante três
semanas, subindo o Rio Envira, e se aproximando das
malocas de índios isolados. Nessa jornada, Meirelles rememora
experiências, expõe contradições de seu ofício
e discute com índios Madijá e Ashaninka a melhor forma
de se relacionar com os índios. Sem tentar amansálos
nem exterminá-los, mas permitindo que continuem
a viver livres na floresta, protegendo o meio ambiente.
After one year and a half away from Acre, the sertanista José
Carlos Meirelles, accompanied by the anthropologist Terri
de Aquino, returns to the South Parallel 10th region, border
with Peru. They travel with their crew for three weeks, going
up the Envira River and getting close to the malocas of isolated
Brazilian Indians. In this journey Meirelles remembers
experiences, exposes contradictions of his work and debates
with the Madijá and Ashaninka Indian people the best way to
establish a relationship with them, avoiding any attempt to
domesticate or exterminate them and allowing them to keep
on living freely in the forest, protecting the environment.
