The conference motto is “Communication as a right of all persons”, and it willbe discussed over different perspectives, from its legal aspects to the right of spreading knowledge in professional and nonprofessional media.The “<strong>Socieda<strong>de</strong></strong> <strong>Brasileira</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Fonoaudiologia</strong>” – SBFa (Brazilian Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Society) has been working hardalong with its Scientific Departments, Councils and Committees, to make this event a milestone in our history, in the year we celebrate three<strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s as a professional category in Brazil. Because it is an international conference, foreign guests will have a special role, alongsi<strong>de</strong> prominentBrazilian teachers and researchers. In addition to renowned specialists, representatives of the three major international societies in our field, IALP(International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics), ISA (International Society of Audiology), and ASHA (American Speech-LanguagePathology and Audiology Association) will be present at conferences and special activities, proposing and contributing to the <strong>de</strong>bate about thechallenges of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in the world and solutions to <strong>de</strong>velop better professional practices.The main purposes of this event are:• Enhance the population’s awareness regarding the human right to communication as a universal right.• Increase the exchange between scientists, researchers, professionals, stu<strong>de</strong>nts and scientific enterprises in the area of communication andhearing disor<strong>de</strong>rs.• Spread the national and international scientific and technological research.• Promote the integration between the areas of research, teaching, extension and professional practice.• Expand the communication network between speech-language pathologists and audiologists and the various governmental agencies.• Promote the quality of speech-language pathology practice within the “Sistema Único <strong>de</strong> Saú<strong>de</strong>” - SUS (Brazilian Public Health System).3
