ABSTRACTThe distance learning is a kind of teaching widespread nowadays, and it evolvescontinuously through the adhesion of more courses and subjects to this method. The engineercourses also look for this kind of teaching, but many times there is a impossibility due thenecessity of practical activities. In the Electronic Engineering it is indispensable the use ofsome kinds of instruments, that ensure the implementation of practical experiments as acomplement of teaching. This work propose one of the possible methods of accessingexperiments remotely, through a Internet server, connected to programmable instruments. Inthis server there are saved software applications to access the instruments by GPIB bus -developed based on the IEEE-488.1, IEEE-488.2 and SCPI, standards that define the methodand languages adopted to control programmable instruments - and also web sites, throughwhich is possible to access the remote laboratory, ensuring the data flow between user andinstruments. Through the use of similar systems like proposed in this work, becomes feasiblethe realization of distance practical experiments, adding one more tool to the learning qualityimprovement.Key words: GPIB, distance learning, IEEE-488, remote laboratory, programmableinstruments.
