Interview José Sotto Mayor Matoso
An unavoidable
reference
José Sotto Mayor Matoso is already, and in his own right, a major name in the history
of Clube Naval de Cascais. Emeritus Dragonist, he has been present at all decisive moments
for the club in recent years, as Vice-President and as President. And he will continue to be,
now as Commodore, a role he will approach from a new perspective, to perform an in-depth
interview to gain a better understanding of the club’s history and future prospects,
from those who have already secured their place in the annals of the CNC
José Sotto Mayor Matoso was born in
Lisbon, is married, father of three children
and has a long and fruitful professional career
in business administration, both in Portugal
and abroad, during which he has worked in
areas such as banking, investment management,
book publishing or hotel management.
In short, his career may indicate an apparent
simplicity, which does not do justice to the
dedication and competence he has placed,
and to the success he has achieved, in all the
projects he has embraced throughout his life.
The same happens with his connection to
Clube Naval de Cascais. A sailor since a very
young age, and with an enviable record in this
sport, he has been one of the most influential
and prominent figures of the CNC - especially
in the last decade and a half, during which the
club registered a growth and development never
before seen in 82 years of history, becoming an
unavoidable reference among the sailing clubs
not only in Portugal, but also internationally.
But much remains to be done. And that is
why, with unanimity, the present executive team
considered José Sotto Mayor Matoso to be the
ideal element to succeed Miguel Horta e Costa,
and to assume the functions of Commodore of
