get together regularly and healthily; and
in which non-sailing members can join the
club, providing it with South America’s
most typical culture of use and enjoyment
of yacht clubs.
This proves that, like the region, the
needs of the CNC have evolved with the
passage of time. And if, in its first eighty
years of existence, the role of Commodore
was perfectly suited to someone with an
executive profile, with a strong domestic
presence, today, to meet the international
side of the club, someone with an absolute
knowledge of its current operations and a
strong international curriculum in terms
of sailing is needed.
It was based on these assumptions that
Clube Naval de Cascais considered José
Sotto Mayor Matoso as its most eligible
member for this demanding task, so it
appointed him as its Commodore since
last June. His involvement and support
to the CNC over the last twelve years has
been, in all respects, extraordinary, being
part, in 2008, of the cast of which Gonçalo
Esteves, Francisco Geraldes, Manuel
