governo nos procedimentos ambientais no mundo,
como nos encontros da COP. Somos exemplo para
o mundo em cobertura ambiental, temos a maior
biodiversidade, 12% da disponibilidade de água
doce do mundo, e não podemos continuar sem ser
protagonistas na política, nas ideias e na organização
do meio ambiente no mundo. Nossa imagem começa
a melhorar na medida em que a realidade chega nos
plenários de discussão do mundo com mais transparência
e certificações nacionais e internacionais, não
só de condições técnicas, mas também ambientais e
sociais, dentro do movimento de ESG como é o caso
do nosso setor de base florestal. Tudo com bastante
transparência nas ações. Só é bom para nossa empresa
se for bom para todo mundo; esse é e precisa continuar
sendo nosso objetivo em comum no setor.
COMO A GUERRA NA UCRÂNIA E A GEOPO-
LÍTICA INTERNACIONAL IMPACTARAM A INDÚS-
TRIA DE BASE FLORESTAL EM 2022?
Estamos saindo da pandemia com prejuízos
em todo o mundo, de modo geral, mas que gerou
também crescimento no consumo em madeira. Infelizmente,
a guerra entre Ucrânia e Rússia trouxe problemas
sérios em muitos segmentos da economia,
porém gerou oportunidades à madeira brasileira.
Há uma demanda enorme da Europa por toras de
madeira, cavaco e pellets para geração de calor e
energia. Lamentavelmente, eles precisarão quebrar
compromissos ambientais ao retomarem o uso do
carvão. O mercado mundial continua crescendo, este
ano atingimos a marca de 8 bilhões de pessoas no
mundo. Grandes nações como Índia e China estão
consumindo cada vez mais produtos oriundos da madeira,
diante do crescimento da renda da população.
QUAIS AS PERSPECTIVAS DA ABAF PARA
2023, DIANTE DO NOVO GOVERNO E DO CE-
NÁRIO MUNDIAL?

HOW HAS THE WAR IN UKRAINE AND IN-
TERNATIONAL GEOPOLITICS IMPACTED THE
FOREST-BASED SECTOR IN 2022?
We are coming out of the pandemic with losses
worldwide; however, it has generated growth in forest
product consumption. Unfortunately, the war between
Ukraine and Russia brought severe problems to many
segments of the economy but also generated opportunities
for Brazilian forest products. There is a massive
demand from Europe for timber logs, chips, and
pellets for heat and energy generation. Regrettably,
they will need to break environmental commitments
when they resume charcoal use. The world market
continues to grow. This year, the world population
reached 8 billion people. Large nations such as India
and China are increasingly consuming forest products
in the face of population income growth.
WHAT ARE ABAF PROSPECTS AND EXPEC-
TATIONS FOR 2023, GIVEN THE NEW GOVERN-
MENT AND THE WORLD SCENARIO?
The prospects are for growth, despite the crisis
that affects specific segments of the economy. In our
forest-based industry, there is a stimulus for higher
consumption and demand, especially in heat and
energy. And also for new products and new tech-
