Freedom writers - Tasks after the film
1. The movie begins with a military tale. This is to show the war
between different races. It also shows the school situation there.
They are in a 10 class, which is now getting a new teacher. She’s
called Mrs. Gruwell. She’s married and has two more jobs. The
students of the school are all against each other. Every day
there's a problem and the gangs are all against each other. That's
what Mrs. Gruwell wants to change. Her class should work
together and not against each other. Thus, she welds the class
more together day by day. She even succeeds. The students
work on their own diary. They are putting together many
projects that Ms. Gruwell is organizing. They realize that they
can help each other and are even stronger. At the end of the
lm, it's about whether the class can continue to keep Mrs.
Gruwell as a teacher. Normally she doesn’t teach 11th classes. But
after several conversations she’s allowed to teach the class
farther. The students are very grateful to Mrs. Gruwell. She has
put her hand in the re for the complete class.
2. I like Eva the most. I think she‘s very helpful to her classmates.
She has been through a lot, which makes her look strong. I think
it's very good that she has learned to lie in the lm. I think also
she has a strong and emotional side, which I like.
3. In the end of the lm they are very helpful. Our class is also
helpful and I think that‘s similar.
4. In my opinion a teacher must be helpful and they should help
the students. They should understand the studends when they
have problems and they should conside this. Maybe them they
Marcus
The character that I would like to focus on from “Freedom
Writers” is Marcus. In my opinion this character has the most
heart-breaking and warming parts in the lm. What I’ve noticed
about this character is a consistent, innate loyalty that I believe
stems mostly from his roots. From what may be gleaned of his
microsystem, Marcus’s truly differentiating factor was his
mother. There is no mention of a father- gure, and the only
other in uences may be only the other neighborhood kids he
grew up with early on. Since the character of Marcus seems so
very loyal to all those he cares for, I’m going to make the
assumption that his mother spent a lot of time instilling the idea
of loyalty into Marcus. The neighborhood he lives in may have
had gangs there, which is what led him to start af liating with
them. The loyalty his mother in uenced was probably a very
attractive quality to these same gangs, given that one of the
whole points of a gang is to gain protection from your peers.
Freedom Writers
the Freedom Writers Movie is based in a real story about a
teacher (Erin Gruwell) who changed the lives of young people
separated by their ethnicities. Mrs. G, as her class calls her, is a
rst timer and she never really expects the type of class she is
getting. Everyone in her class is disrespectful and seems to be
gangsters, and do not care about school or their futures at all.
The last straw is broken when an incident happens and she
compares it to the start of the holocaust. This is a reality check
for both, her and her students. As the year goes along Mrs. G
nds different dynamics and projects that show her students
that they are not as different after all. Therefore, she asks them
to write in a notebook journal about their lives, and what they
consider to make their teacher to know about them, all their
different stories.
According to all her students' past, their lives, their stories, Mrs.
G knows which is her responsability now, to make each of them
reach their goals and make them believe in themselves no
matter which situation they will face throughout their lives; but
Mrs. G will face some other obstacles that will not let her down
until she completes her proposal.
Characterlistics of a good Teacher
1. The ability to develop relationships with their students.
2. Patient, caring, and kind personality.
3. Knowledge of learners.
4. Dedication to teaching
5. Engaging students in learning
even people have to stand past the next movie and read, they are
in a restaurant left with the students and pupils. When all the
students and Mrs. Gruwell had a seat, three people recounted
their lives earlier. They told us what they lost in life and how they
managed to get away, and the children realized something. One
of the class always had a weapon with him to defend himself.
But that evening he took her out and let her fall into the Gulli.
Eva visited her father in prison, she brought her father a book
with what they had read in class. The father puts it aside and
much.Mrs. g. wanted the kids to write an essay that, but then
she said they should write something about themselves, then
they did that when the kids were nished then they wanted to
send that to a certain woman.Mrs. g. agreed but this thing with
the money was the problem and others said they could then
make a collection action and that's why they did it. They had
many stalls and then also got enough money to mail the letters
and that the wife of Miep Gies can come to him when Mrs. Gies
appeared, telling at school that she was about to mete out her
life earlier and about Anne Frank with her story, others stood up
and told her certain words.
Short content overview of the film
At the center of this lm is the young, idealistic English teacher
Erin Gruwell. She takes her rst job at High School in Long
Beach, California. There she becomes a grade nine class teacher
as well. The everyday life of the student is characterized by
crime, weapons, gang af liations, hatred and the struggle for
daily survival. There are gang wars and extreme violence in the
classrooms and in the schoolyard. The schoolyard is divided into
tribal af liations and each group is among themselves. Many
teachers have already given up their students, calling them
"uneducable" or "below average." Although she receives no
support from the college, she develops a tremendous ambition
to give these students a future again. Highly motivated and with
unusual means, she slowly gains the interest of the students, for
their new class teacher.
Andre's mother can not see him anymore, because he has too
many similarities with his father. Eva visited someone in jail. She
brought him a book that the read at school. The teacher went to
the museum with the students, then they watched a movie. Then
they went to a restaurant. There was a woman and a man who
talked about their childhood. A student throws away his pistol.
After the summer holidays, all students have become friends and
you. Every student had to go forward and say a toast. Then they
had to take a bag. In the bag were books that will read
students to visit museum. Eva visited her father. She took a book
with her to give to her father. Father was not interested in this
book. The teacher came to take Andrew from his home. They
went to museum. Students saw what happened with Jewish
people. That they were murdered. They saw that jewish people
were deported to camps. After that they saw what happened to
the Jewish, they took a card where was the history of a people.
Every student was surprised what they saw about that person. At
evening they speaked with people that lived this period of
murder. In that night some of them threw away the guns that
they had. Some of them started to write his own history that
they lived.
Next day, the teacher made a table with a box of books and some
champagne drinks. The students needed to say what they will do
after the end of the school.
problems. At the end of conversation with Andrew she said that
she is waiting a better note of him on this test.
When the teacher was in class she said that the eleventh and
twelfth class will teach other teacher. The class was sad and said
that they don't want other teacher, because other teachers are
bad and they don't have respect for other teachers. Teacher
replied that she is not mother for every student and they need to
be one in family that nished school.
Teacher speaked with director about that she wants to teach her
students in eleventh and twelfth class, but Ms. Margaret said big
arguments and this idea failed. Teacher made last project about
Next day there was a council of teachers. This teacher allowed to
Ms. Gruwell to teach her class next to years.
A boy gets up and discussed with Erin. because of that wanted
she to make a new sitting arrangement but the students began
to argue. They sat on their new places but less and less students
came to school.
2 girls and Eva have made their make up. In the next scene we
can see a car driving to a gas station Eva and the 2 girls are
sitting in the car, the driver is a boy. First goes a Chinese girl to
the gas station and then Eva after a few minutes. Eva sees a boy
at a slot machine. Eva takes snacks but suddenly the boy freaks
out at the slot machine and argues with the manager. but if the
boy wants to go out, a gun is aimed at him. The gun keep the
driver, he kills a Chinese boy and leaves with Eva. At the next
day, teachers gathered in the school and talked about the fact
that Eva was there too. A note in the class is passed on to other
student . On the note is painted a boy of the class. When he got
it, he was the only one who did not laugh. When Erin noticed
she took the note and looked angry with the class while they
laughed. She tells about a similar picture in a museum and says
that the students know nothing about gangs. Eva and a boy
discuss with Erin and Eva says that she hates white people,
including the teacher. But when Erin talks about death, everyone
is quiet.
Erin asks the students if anyone has ever pointed a gun at them,
everyone has raised their hand.
Erin looked wondered at the students.
She said that she knows that his brother is at the jail and said to
Andrew that we all have problems, but we try to resolve this
Freedom Writers (Part 1)
At the beginning of the lm, a little girl named Eva is sitting in
front of her house on the stairs. She sees a person standing next
to a car. Suddenly a car came and shot the person next to the
car. After a few years, this little girl has seen the arrest of her
father. A scene took place at the Secretariat, where a new
teacher named Erin Gruwell was hired. The director tells Erin
that the students are drive to school for one and a half hours and
that she should not give up so much homework. Erin was very
happy on her rst day, she had 4 English classes and was waiting
for a class in the classroom. She wrote her name on the
blackboard. While the doorbell rang, she looked to the door
because there were students going to their classrooms, but
Erin's class was empty. After a few minutes all students came
and Eva also came to class. When everyone sat down, Erin asked
for the presence while all students ignored her. Two students
began to insult themselves, Erin called for help, but no one
came. She had an idea to talk about Tupac. But the students
laughed at her. Every student knew that she teach her rst time.
Freedom Writers (Part 4)
Erin cooks at home and talk with her husband about her work
but he doesn't want to hear about it. He kiss her and wants
more, but she refuses. Erin organizes a parents evening while
she waits for the parents she looks in the closed cupboard and
sees a pile of exercise books from the students. She reads what
the students wrote. A girl was beaten at home, because their
parents could not afford the rent.
from a student his best friend shot himself next to him and he
had to go to a jail. everyone wrote something horrible and Erin
imagines how the students would tell it. Many words like wars,
shootings, soldiers, jails came often in their exercises books. Erin
shows her father a few exercises books and she is worried,
because her students are 14- 16 Years old. The father simply
recommends Erin to do her job and gain experience. She is
looking for a second job so she can nance the books and a trip
for the students. She is looking for discounts in libraries. She
talks with a black man from the school board. She wants to make
trips with the class but for that need the students good grades.
She says that the Principal doesn't need to know about it. She
goes to a part-time job on the weekend, but her husband doesn't
want it. She goes anyway because she feels obligated. She gets a
permit for the trip but the principal is not happy about it
although he nanced this trip herself. Then she goes to Andre
with her father
Freedom Writers (Part 3)
The students left the class. Erin wants to look in a library if she
nds a suitable book for her students. She wants the book
Romeo and Juliet, but the principal doesn't want that the books
be destroyed. The principal tells that the students should learn
something different, like discipline. Erin talks with a man, but he
says she doesn't know the students and they won't read the
books. Then she looks at the children in the schoolyard as they
play. Erin has the idea to make a red line in the middle of the
classroom and when anything applies to the students, they
should stand at the red line. She asks many questions so she can
get to know the students better. But when she asked if the
students had lost someone in a gang war, all are on the red line.
Erin is very surprised when she sees that. She bought exercise
books to bring the students to write something about their lives.
She won't read it, Only when the students placed the exercise
books in her cupboard which is closed after every lesson. At the
beginning, no one picks up an exercise book. Then only one
student came and picks up an exercise book. At home Erin talks
with his husband about Eva.
Freedom writers Part 1
At the beginning, a little girl named Eva was shown who had her
rst day at school. She waited outside the door for her to drive
her father.
When she got older, she was taken in a gang in the third
generation.
It shows a woman, she is a teacher. Her name is Erin Gruwell.
She comes to a new school and she is looking forward to it. She
gets a class that does not listen and does what she wants. They
come whenever they want, they go when they want, they talk
when they want, and so on. The next few days she tries to get
the class under control. One evening she goes to dine with her
father and her boyfriend in a restaurant. They talk about the
work of each other. The father is not unhappy that his daughter
is a teacher. The next day, she tries to teach the class rap music
because she thinks they'll join in with it. At once it rings and
everyone runs around in the school hall in panic. When Erin
goes outside, she sees a big brawl.
Interview Andre Bryant
N=Natalia (Ich)
A=Andre Bryant
N: Hello, name is Natalia. What's your name?
A: My name is Andre Bryant.
N: Are you an American?
A: Yes, but an African american.
N: Why are you so resentful?
The last rows of seats had to swap with the rst rows of seats,
because they did not want to sit alone. From day to day fewer
and fewer students come to school. The girls put on make-up
and get ready. They drive to a gas station and Eva wanted to buy
something. One customer had a dispute with the seller and they
started shouting. From outside the car came a shot. Eva ran to
the car and got in. They then drove away.
Eva is now the lead witness of this case. In the class a note was
passed around and there was a face drawn on it. The students
made fun of it rst. They discuss in class and Eva says that she
hates white people because they are allowed to do everything.
Only one of the class knows what a Holocaust is. All but one have
been shot.
He's a little annoyed now because the two are just talking about
it.
Freedom writers Part 3
Mrs. Gruwell tries to borrow books for the children, but the
librarian says she will not get it back. Or she suspects that she
gets the books broken again or paint the students purely. Mrs.
Gruwell also says students can compare with Anne Frank.
Mrs. Gruwell plays a line game with the kids. She asks the
children to ask and they have to go to the line if they answer yes
and stop if they want to answer no. Each of the students is lost
to at least one friend by the gang war. Mrs. Gruwell brought
books to the students. She wants students to write something in
every day. You can write about the past, the present or the
future. You can also write song lyrics or poems. They should lead
it like a diary. If Mrs. Gruwell is allowed to read the notebooks,
the students should place the notebooks in a closet, if they are
not allowed to read it, then the students should take the
notebooks with them. The closet is unlocked each lesson and
completed at the end of the lesson.
Freedom writers - questions
1. According zu Eva, why was her father arrested?
The neighbor was shot and Eva's father was suspected.
2. Why did Erin Gruwell (Ms. G) decide to teach instead of be a
lawyer?
3. List some opposition/ obstacles Ms. G faces in the beginning.
At the rst she was happy when she was in front of the class, but
when the students came in and didn't listen to them, she was
startled and annoyed.
4. How do the students in 2003 relate to one another at rst?
They argue and scream. They push and laugh.
Freedom writers Part 4
Mrs. Gruwell reads the children's notebooks. There were a few
notebooks in the closet, but not all. A girl in the class writes that
her mother was brought out of the house before her eyes and
she was beaten to death. She herself was beaten and she says
she still feels it. Marcus wrote that he was sitting on a bench
with a friend. This friend showed him a gun and he was shot.
Marcus sat next to him until the police arrived. His friend lay
next to him as a corpse and Marcus went to jail. She has read
several other books and all have a cruel story.
Ms. Gruwell went out to dinner with her dad and told me about
the notebooks. She tries to convince the headmaster that she
can take a trip with the students at the weekend. She wants to
show the students the world behind the place of residence. She
wants to give this excursion as a reward for good work and
grades. At rst she does not get the permission, but the next
morning he says yes.
Freedom writers Part 6
Part 6
Ms. Gruwell wanted the students to take a glass and say
something. A few students have done it and they have become
more self-con dent and believe more in themselves. There was a
boy coming forward who wanted to read from his diary. The
students wondered who that is and they don't even know the
name. He wrote that he is homeless and he has no more.
Nevertheless, he goes to school and since Ms. Gruwell is there,
everything is better for him. Meanwhile, he feels at home in
school. He wears old hair and thus he feels uncomfortable.
5. Who is a character you like or relate to the most so far? Why?
How so?
I like Eva the most because she is a strong person.
6. What are ways Ms. G tried to engage (make them interested)
the students?
She plays a line game with the students and gives them
notebooks as a "diary".
7. What are some reasons the students do not respect Ms. G at
rst? What do they say to her when she confronts them? Maybe
they didn't learn otherwise.
8. Why does Eva "hate the white people"?
She means that the white people have more rights and they are
allowed everything. She also thinks that white people can do
whatever they want.
9. Describe Ms. G husband. What is his attitude towards her
teaching career?
A girl from the advanced course wants to switch to Ms. Gruwell.
Her husband is offended and says she can't teach the student
because the level is too high. In the end, he still apologizes to
her.
The students read the book of Anne Frank and Eva goes to Mrs.
Gruwell and asks her things about the book, but she should
continue to read. Eva does not want Anne Frank to die because
that doesn't t the book and Marcus says she isn't death to him.
He also says that Anne Frank understands the situation of the
students. Ms. Gruwell wants students to write a letter to Miep
Gies, what they think of the book, and explain their situation.
Marcus absolutely wants to accompany her purely. The students
want Miep Gies to come to them, so they do a "Taste for Change"
event and collect donations, Ms. Gruwell sent the letters to
Amsterdam, and Miep Gies came to Longbeach, and then
Marcus was allowed to accompany them purely Telling the
students that she tried to bribe jewellery to bribe the soldiers,
any of the Jews kept hidden was shot or sent to a concentration
camp, she was held a gun to her head, Marcus says she is a hero,
ut she thinks the kids are heroes because what she's doing is
just strong, she also says she did the right thing.
He's a little annoyed now because the two are just talking about
it.
his father. Eva is in jail to visit her father. She brings him a book
from the school with what they have read. She says the book is
good and he has to read it too. Eva's father tells her something
I like Eva the most because she is a strong person.
Students drive to New York with Mrs. Gruwell. There they go to
a Holocaust museum. Everyone gets a card, where a picture of a
child is on it. You will learn about these children in this museum.
At the end of the visit, they will learn whether the child died on
the map or not.
A little later, they go to a restaurant together. There they meet
older people who tell them about this time. One woman says
that the camp in Auschwitz is the worst camp. She was
separated from her entire family.
Freedom writers Part 7
Marcus goes to his mother and tells her that he wants to go
home. He needs her help because he thinks he will not make it
on his own. He wants to change.
boy played at the slot machine and lost. This made him angry
and wanted to have his money back. He overturned things. At
rst she can't say who it was. But then she says "Poco shot him."
Eva is followed by her gang and they say that Eva died for them,
she goes to Ms. Gruwell and tells her about it, she lives with her
aunt for now Ms. Gruwell, if she can do her homework at school
and she says yes, if it gets too late, Ms. Gruwell drives Eva home,
there are more and more students coming to school, doing their
9. Describe Ms. G husband. What is his attitude towards her
Ms. Gruwell comes home and talks about her beautiful day. She
goes to the bedroom and she, that her husband has packed his
things. She sat down together at a table and talked about it. Her
husband receives too little attention and thinks the children are
more important to her. She prefers to be at school rather than at
home. Erin says that she wants to help the children nd their
meaning in life and that they have ful lled their task.
Freedom writers part 8
Part 8
Ms. Gruwell is only allowed to teach the 9th and 10th grade. The
students are dissatis ed with that since they are in the 11th
grade. They have become like a family to each other and they do
not want to lose.
At home, she packs things for her husband. She just can not
believe she is getting divorced from her husband. Her dad is with
her and tells her how proud he is of her. That she has really
achieved a lot and that she has changed the students into a
positive one.
The next day, Ms. Gruwell discusses with the director and 3
other lessons. She wants to keep the class and continue to teach
her in the 11th grade and also in the 12th grade. First it is rejected
and the students do not want that. Andrew has been missing
several times over the last few days because his brother has
been sentenced.
The students tell Ms. Gruwell that they have respect for her.
They think she wouldn't graduate without her. Ms. Gruwell says
that she should not make it dependent on her and that she can
also graduate alone and achieve much in her life. The students
are given the task of writing their diaries as a book. You should
choose a title for this book and a name. Ms. Gruwell has said that
this book is likely to be published.
Ms. Gruwell talks to the teachers again and it turns out that she
is allowed to teach the students in the 11th and 12th grade. They
are all happy. At the end a class photo will be shown and there is
Erin Gruwell and Freedom writers 2006.
Freedom writers tasks after the film
1. The lm is about a teacher who is new to a school. At rst she
is happy to go to school and thinks it isn't so hard to teach the
students. But when the students came to the classroom, they
noticed that they are very restless and that many are missing.
The students do not listen to Ms. Gruwell, they talk to each
other and argue. The next few days, fewer and fewer students
come to school. Ms. Gruwell is trying hard to get the kids to
their senses. She wants everyone to graduate and that they
believe in themselves. She reads the book of Anne Frank with the
students. Ms. Gruwell thinks the children can compare with that
because their lives are also dangerous. As a task, the students
get to write a diary themselves. Every day they should write
down what they did, what worries them, or what happened,
which may depress them. Together they go to a museum and
they get the students under control. The students believe in
themselves and want to graduate. The class grows together as a
family and they all get on well. However, Ms. Gruwell has
problems with her husband because he feels neglected. He
eventually moves out and they even divorce.
2. I like Eva the most because she is a strong person and has
been through a lot. She is committed to things and does not
want to hear from anyone. She does what she thinks is right and
I like that.
3. The class sticks together and they all understand each other.
4. I nd it important for a teacher to give courage to the
students. You should tell them that you can do something and
support the students. That they can listen well, would also be
important.
In addition, they shouldn't put pressure on anyone, because that
stresses a lot.
5. I think some colleagues don't like them because they do a lot
different from the other teachers. She works for her students
and tries everything to get her way. She also wants to continue
teaching to her students, although she is not allowed to do so by
law.
Freedom writers - Teil 1
Zum Anfang des Films wurden Kriegsszenen gezeigt. Dazu
Ganze geschah in Hollywood. Es wurde ein Mädchen gezeigt. An
umgehen sollte. Sie war sprachlos. Die nächsten Tage verliefen
genauso. Es gab unzählige Schlägereien in der Schule.
War scenes were shown at the beginning of the lm. These
included res, arms disputes and so on. The whole thing
happened in Hollywood. There was a girl shown. On her rst day
of school, she really got the hang of the war for the rst time.
She heard a lot from the news, but she never got it right. On the
day of her school enrollment, she waited for her father at the
front door. He wanted to drive her to school. She wished her
neighbor, who was also standing on the road, a good morning
and then it happened. A car came up and shot him out of the car.
Her father hurried to him and tried to help. When the police
arrived, they arrested her father because he was now suspected.
The girl went to school and was taken straight into a gang.
Everything in the school was organized in races and the
respective gangs. There was a new teacher at the school, Mrs.
Gruwell. She was so happy to nally teach. But when she had her
rst lesson, it was completely different than she imagined. The
students were disrespectful to her. Even among themselves, they
were not respectful. Nobody listened. Mrs. Gruwell didn’t know
how to handle it. She was speechless. The next days were the
same. There were countless brawls in the school.
Freedom writers - Teil 2
Zuerst wollte keiner
das verstehen, was Frau Gruwell ihnen beibringen wollte. Doch
The teacher has tried everything to make the lessons exciting.
The students still bullied and beat. Less and less students came
to school. One evening there was a robbery of a gas station.
Students of Mrs. Gruwell's course were there. One of the
students was an eyewitness. One of her gang members was
almost shot dead. When Mrs. Gruwell heard about it, she was
shocked. In class, a picture was passed around. One of the
students painted a classmate. Mrs. Gruwell got this and clari ed
the students. At rst nobody wanted to understand what Mrs.
Gruwell wanted to teach them. But after a while, where they
discussed, they understood it. The gangs have always been
against each other, which has also caused the brawls and
disputes. It was all because of the skin color. Dark-skinned
hated white, as well as hated white swarthy.
Freedom writers - Teil 3
nichts dafür, was in ihrem Leben passiert. Sie sollen jeden Tag
etwas Neues da rein schreiben.
Mrs. Gruwell wants to read with the students. She talked to the
director about it. Her plan was, for example, to read something
about Anne Frank. But the director did not want that. She said
the students would just break the books. Their experiences are
that they seldom got the books back and when they were broken
or painted. Thus, she is against having Mrs. Gruwell reading
with the class. Mrs. Gruwell tries to persuade the director with
the help of a colleague. But he also considers her idea
unbelievable. All teachers blame the children and do not think
it's good that Ms. Gruwell wants to "educate" them. But Mrs.
Gruwell stays with her opinion. She plays a game with the teens
in class. She nds out that each of the students has lost at least
3 friends in gang wars. After the game everyone can get a book.
They should write down their lives in this book. Ms. Gruwell will
not read these books unless the students want to. Thus, they
get no marks on it, because they can not help what happens in
their lives. They should write something new every day.
Freedom writers - Teil 4
Jahren schon Tote gesehen.
Momentan hat Frau Gruwell drei Jobs, was
ihrem Mann nicht wirklich gefällt. Er sagt, dass sie sich auch mal
etwas Auszeit nehmen soll.
It was parents' evening. Ms. Gruwell prepared a poster to
welcome the parents. But nobody was there. However, there
were a few parents with her colleague next door. Now, Ms.
Gruwell thought she could use this time. She got the books out
of the closet. It was amazing, because everyone has put his book
in the closet. This means that everyone wants that Mrs. Gruwell
reads the story about her life. Thus, she has come a step closer
to the students. A student talks about his time in the cell.
Another student talks about the time when her mother was
beaten to death before her eyes. The others also talked about
dead friends and family members. Each of them has already seen
dead in the age of about 15 and 16 years. To deal with it is not
easy. In addition, the students have many scars and injuries. For
defense, some always have a pistol with them. They just want to
protect their families and friends. Mrs. Gruwell decided to make
outings with the students. For that she needed support she even
got. She campaigned for it. Currently, Ms. Gruwell has three jobs,
something her husband does not really like. He says she should
take some time off.
Freedom writers - Questions
Freedom writers - Teil 5
erlebten schon schlimme Dinge. Das machte die Schüler sehr
nachdenklich. Nach dem Besuch im Museum organisierte Frau
Gruwell ein gemeinsames Abendessen. Zudem kamen einige
Tagebuch weiter. Sogar in der Schule verstand sich Frau
Gruwell‘s Klasse mittlerweile sehr gut. In anderen Klassen war
dies nicht der Fall.
Ms. Gruwell took a trip with her students. She thought it would
be nice to visit a museum. So she picked up the students from
home. Her father accompanied her and got out, for example,
with Andrew, since there live only dark-skinned. Andrew's
mother constantly ignores him because he looks like his father.
His brother was imprisoned for life. But during a conversation in
front of Andrew's door, Andrew said someone made a statement
that would help his brother to come out. Now everyone goes to
the museum together. The museum tells stories of children of
that age in the midst of National Socialism. At that time they
were all very young and already had bad things. That made the
students very thoughtful. After visiting the museum, Ms. Gruwell
organized a dinner together. In addition, some witnesses of
National Socialism came to the restaurant. This pleased the
students very well because the witnesses told their own stories.
In their spare time, the students diligently wrote down their
diary. Even at school, Ms. Gruwell's class got on very well. In
other classes this was not the case.
Freedom writers - Teil 6
Klasse Miep Gies kennenlernen. Sie lebt sogar noch und sie
könnte den Schülern einiges lehren. Da die Schüler sie
unbedingt sehen wollen, machen sie Schülerspendenaktionen,
beispielsweise eine Tanzparty. Die Briefe an Miep Gies hat Frau
Gruwell abgeschickt. Tatsächlich hat es funktioniert. Miep Gies
Now the students said, "Leave the negative things that happened
to you behind you." Each student should say a toast by saying
what they want to forget. One of the students reads his diary.
Everyone is there for each other and support each other. The
students from the other classes would like to change to Ms.
Gruwell's class, but colleagues do not like that. When Ms.
Gruwell comes home, her husband is mad. She takes no time for
herself and is still thinking about the class. The students read
the book "Anne Frank" and write good grades. Eve enters the
classroom sourly, where only Mrs. Gruwell sits and complains
that Anne dies in the book. The next task for the class is to write
a letter to Miep Gies. The class would like to meet Miep Gies.
She still lives and she could teach the students a lot about her
life. Since the students want to see this person, they do student
donations, for example a dance party. Ms. Gruwell Dent the
Peters to Miep Gies. In fact, it worked. Miep Gies visits the class.
She was received by Andrew and told a lot about hiding Anne
Frank.
Freedom writers - Teil 7
Zudem
Eva becomes aggressive and is annoyed by the situation. She has
learned that it is better to stick to the truth. Andrew asks his
mother for help. He can‘t no more stand being ignored by her.
He would much rather have her support to change. Now Eva has
to go to court to testify. It's hard for her. From her gang & her
family, she is supposed to lie to defend someone. But she stays
with the truth. She no longer wants to lie in order to better
represent her "race". Outside, according to the statement, Eva is
persecuted by gang members. She tries to escape, but she does
not succeed. They even hold the gun to her head. They say, "For
us you died!" Besides, her dad does not talk to her anymore.
Because she can no longer look at home, she dives. She lives
with her aunt, a little further away. She tells Ms. Gruwell, who is
always there for her and helps her. Meanwhile, the gangs
understand each other in Mrs. Gruwell's class. In addition, the
students report and try to improve their education. When Ms.
Gruwell comes home, her husband already expects her. He
wants to move out. Mrs. Gruwell tries to stop him. But he thinks
that she prefers her class and that he is less important to her.
She wanted to give the students but only a meaning in life.
Freedom writers - Teil 8
Frau Gruwell in ihrem Scheidungsprozess.
Anne Frank. Ein weiteres Gespräch stand an. In diesem stellte
A judgment has now been given against Andrew's brother. That's
why Andrew doesn’t come to school. A big problem is heading
towards Mrs. Gruwell and her students. The school year is
coming to an end. This means that Ms. Gruwell will not teach
the class next term. However, the whole class is ghting for it
not being so. They don‘t want to lose Ms.Gruwell, which gives
them hope for a better life. Incidentally, Ms. Gruwell is in her
divorce process. She puts Scot's things in moving boxes, with
her father assisting her. He says to her that he is very proud of
her because she mastered it all. The conversation about whether
Ms. Gruwell can continue to teach her class begins. There are
more teachers. These are strict against teaching the 11th grade
and because Mrs. Gruwell has not worked there as long as them
have. At rst, Ms. Gruwell could not really convince, because
there are too many things against it. However, the class refuses
to be taught by another teacher. They only feel comfortable in
the classroom. There they can stay as long as they want. They
have support and security there. Besides, her class is like a
family. The cohesion was built and he should stay that way. For
the time being, the last project of Mrs. Gruwell is that the
students should write their diary in their own books, like Anne
Frank. Another conversation was pending. In this it turned out
The lm is about a teacher who comes to a new school.
At school, different nations are mixed together. The teacher
looks forward to the challenges. She hopes she can teach the
children something.
The director thinks it's rather funny how much ernegie the
teacher puts in there. she does not take the teacher seriously.
She also believes that the teacher should take her beads to class.
The teacher is looking forward to the rst day of school. When
the teens enter the classroom, they are loud, cheeky and
disrespectful. Nobody listens to the teacher.
On the rst day there is a ght between two students. On the
second day there is even a mass brawl in the school.
Later, the teacher meets with her husband and father in a
restaurant. It seems like the father does not like her husband.
he constantly asks him about his work and ma gives him
suggestions as to what he could do better.
The father is also not really convinced that his daughter works in
this school. He thinks the kids are not educated anyway
The teacher is not in a good mood that evening. Her husband,
however, consoles her.
The next day, the teacher tries to get more attention from the
students. She talks about Tupak. But even that does not really
work because the kids laugh at her and think she would not have
to teach rap to foreigners.
The teacher is shocked that so many children were shot. She
wants to get books for the kids that make up her.
For example the book Anne Frank or the original constitution of
Romeo and Juliet.
She wants that, the children learn and learn something from it.
She also wants the children to nd themselves in the books.
The director has something against it. She says that you kids
would not care anyway.
that the children do not want education and
do not need it.
She has therefore gone to another teacher to
ask why this is so and if he agrees. The teacher gets rude and
thinks integration is a big lie.
After that, the teacher is angry. She plays a game with the kids.
She asks a question and the children have to go to the Lienie if
that applies to them. The teacher has provided empty notebooks
for the children. The children are allowed to write in whatever
they want.
At the end you can see the teacher cooking with her husband in
the kitchen. she talks about the children.
The man thinks he can not hear that anymore.
questions.
Markus: yes, of course.
Me: so with you because the woman helped Anne Frank to hide.
What do you think about? And how did you like it?
Freedom writers letzter Filmabschnitt:
Markus: It was the best day in my life. I've never been so
excited. The woman is an absolute inspiration for me. I got up
and said that she is a hero to me. But she said that every human
being is a hero. That made me think. This means that I am also
a hero.
i: how do you like erinner class teacher.?
Markus: mis.G?
me: yes exactly
Markus: she has totally changed my life. Through her my life has
a meaning again.
Me: that makes me very happy. Thank you for the short
Markus: also very happy
After the teacher left her husband, the teacher is very sad. She
calls her father. When the father asks, the teacher dares not tell
him the truth.
The next day the teacher has a limited good mood
then the class asks her if she will teach the teacher next year.
The teacher is surprised that the children did not know it.
She thought the kids know they're going to another class next
year.
the children are disappointed and call through the class
Vörschläge, for that this does not happen.
The teacher, however, realizes that it also makes her sad.
She chose her class, not her husband. The class was the most
important in her life.
this encourages them to ght for their class.
She decides to talk to the school council. But he does not agree.
when she has to confess that to her class, the class is very
disappointed.
They say that the authorities should not take their mother away.
The teacher tries to make it clear that she is not her mother. but
the children say that they do not mean that. When you call
someone a mother, you respect the person.
Die Klasse in echt
The Student I like the Most ( Marcus)
my favorite student is Marcus. He seems very closed in the
beginning. In the movie, however, you can see everything he's
been through.
his friend killed himself before his eyes. This alone is such a bad
experience that limits you to many things for the rest of your
life. The police arrested him for doing so. so he had to sit in his
juvenile jail all his childhood.
that made him cold. so his mother threw him out of the house.
Marcus, however, is a boy with a good heart. The fact that he
has to live on the street is very touching. He is also one of the
rst to open before Miss g. For me he is a courageous young
man who has a lot of potential.
I also think that many young people should take an example
from him.
Summary of the Film
Marcus
The lm is about a young teacher who is coming to a new
school. She gets a class with so-called special cases.
some of the school do not trust this task, the teacher does not.
When the teacher enters the class, she is overwhelmed. there
are ghts on the rst day, nobody likes them.
but the teacher does not give up. she tries to promote the
children. she even tries it with rap music.
but then the kids just make them out.
she does not give up. She gives the children a book where they
can write whatever they want. they do not have to read it out,
but they are allowed to.
slowly the children start to open. We get in the movie with what
the children have experienced everything. Eva's father, for
example, is in prison. Most children in the class have
experienced a shootout. Many of them have lost a family
member or a friend. some have been shot themselves before.
The teacher desperately wants the children to read the diary of
Anne Frank. She believes the children can identify with it.
However, this is not approved by the school board. Therefore,
the teacher has to nd a side job so that she can nance the
books herself. Later, she is looking for more jobs so that she can
also nance excursions.
the children live together strongly. The class is like a home to
Things that are the same in our class.
First, we also have a teacher who looks after us. a teacher who
Cares about our future and is very close to us.
In addition, there are many different cultures in our class.
Main part of our work together are projects- also in spare time -
- same as in the lm.
Last Thing : we also write down very much about our life,
history, family, dreams and hopes and we try to stay very close
together and be very helpful .
