Journey of a Man
On many a moonlit night
He would sit by the banks of the river
Deep in Warmun country
Looking down into the shrouded waters
But as he gazed into the unknown
Searching for some ancient knowledge
All that greeted him
Was a reflection of himself
A lost boy, suspended in mid-air
Adrift without an anchor.
Long before he had come into being
He would wade through these tides
Or on calmer days, drift amidst the weeds
Searching for her
Then, with a great heave and a thrust
She had spat him out of the river
Had sat with him (but only for a while)
Holding him close, under the great boab tree
Even now, after all this time
He can still see the reflection of that boy
Transfixed, by the banks of the river
Waiting patiently for her return.
