Dr. Faruk YILMAZ Eş-Danışman / Co-Advisor ÖZET Poly(ε-kaprolakton) (PCL) biyobozunabilir ve biyouyumlu bir polimerdir. Fakat lineer PCL'nin (LPCL) yüksek kristallenebilme özelliği, uygulamalarda problem oluşturmaktadır. Bu tez çalışmasında, PCL kollarından oluşan yıldız ve dallanmış polimerler kontrollü polimerizasyon yöntemleri kullanılarak hazırlandı. PCL kollarından oluşan yıldız polimerlerin kristallenebilme davranışları araştırıldı ve LPCL ile karşılaştırıldı. Diğer taraftan, PCL, poli(metil metakrilat) (PMMA) ve Politiyofen (PTh) kollarından oluşan dallanmış polimerlerin elektrokromik davranışları incelendi ve elektrokromik cihaz uygulamasında anodik renklenen malzemeler olarak kullanıldı. Tezin ilk kısmında, sekiz hidroksil (OH) fonksiyonlu ve Magnezyum (Mg) kompleksli porfirazin (PrSOH) bileşiği, sekiz kollu yıldız şekilli PCL polimerlerin (OSPCL) hazırlanmasında çoklu başlatıcı olarak kullanıldı. ε - kaprolakton (ε-CL) monomerinin başlatıcıya oranı değiştirilerek farklı molekül ağırlıklarında yıldız polimerler hazırlandı. Porfirazin çekirdekli yıldız polimerlerin optik, kristallide ve ısısal özellikleri incelendi. Analizler sonucunda, OSPCL polimerlerinin kristallenebilme eğiliminin LPCL'ye kıyasla azaltıldığı tespit edildi. Tezin ikinci kısmında ilk önce, üç pozisyonunda OH ve tersiyer bromür başlatıcı grupları bulunan yeni bir tiyofen bileşiği (monomeri) sentezlendi. Bu başlatıcı grupları kullanılarak Halka Açılma Polimerizasyonu (ROP) ve Atom Transfer Radikal Polimerizasyonu (ATRP) teknikleri ile sırasıyla ε -CL ve metil metakrilat (MMA) monomerlerinin alfa (α) uc (terminal) pozisyonunda tiyofen bulunan ABSTRACT Poly(ε-caprolacton) (PCL) is a biocompatible and biodegradable aliphatic polymer. However, linear PCL (LPCL) has high cristallinity that causes problem during application process. In this thesis, PCL based star or branched polymers were prepared via controlled polymerization methods. The crystallinity behavior of the star polymers with PCL arms was examined and compared with LPCL whereas electrochromic properties of the branced polymers containing PCL, poly(methy metharcylate) (PMMA), and polythiophene (PTh) arms were investigated and employed as anodically coloring materials in electrochromic device application. In the first part of the thesis, Magnesium (Mg)-containing-porphyrazine with eight hydroxyl (OH) functional groups was used as a multiple initiator to prepare octaarmed star-shaped poly(ε-caprolactone) (OSPCL). The star polymers with different molecular weights of arms were prepared by changing the ratio of ε- caprolacton (ε-CL) to the initiator. Optical, thermal, and crystallization behavior of the star polymers were investigated. The analysis results showed that the crystallinity ability of the PCL chains in OSPCL are lower than that of LPCL. In the second part of the thesis, a novel thiophene (Th) monomer having OH and tertiary bromide at the thirth position of the Th ring was firstly prepared. By using these initiator groups, homopolymers of PCL (PCL-Th, PI) and PMMA (PMMA-Th, PII) having Th functional group at the alfa (α) end (terminal) position were synthesized via Ring Opening Polymerization (ROP) and Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization 135
