Message from The Director <br />
Gebze Teknik Üni<strong>ve</strong>rsitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 1992 yılında kurulmuş <br />
olan Gebze Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü’nün devamı olarak, lisansüstü <br />
eğitim-‐öğretim faaliyetlerini kalitesini yükselterek sürdürmektedir. <br />
Bilim <strong>ve</strong> teknoloji üretme odaklı eğitim bir sunarak lisansüstü <br />
çalışmalarının ürüne <strong>ve</strong>ya patente dönüştürülmesini hedeflemektedir. <br />
Bu Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsünün stratejik hedefidir. <br />
Günümüzde temel bilimler <strong>ve</strong> mühendislik alanlarında yaşanılan hızlı <br />
gelişmelerin takip edebilmesinde ihtiyaç duyulan araştırmacıların <strong>ve</strong> <br />
kalifiye insan gücünün yetiştirilmesi, ancak uzmanlık alanı odaklı <br />
lisansüstü programlar <strong>ve</strong> araştırmalarla sağlanabilir. Başta bölgemizde <br />
18 Organize Sanayi Bölgesi (OSB) ile 35 Ar-‐Ge Birimleri olmak üzere <br />
ülkemizin, araştırma <strong>ve</strong> tasarım yapabilen beyin gücüne gereksinimi <br />
vardır. Bu amacın gerçekleştirilmesi için üni<strong>ve</strong>rsite-‐sanayi işbirliğinin <br />
geliştirilmesi <strong>ve</strong> üni<strong>ve</strong>rsite-‐kamu-‐özel sektör Ar-‐Ge iş birlikteliğinin daha <br />
da güçlendirilmesi, atılması gereken önemli adımlardan biridir. <br />
Enstitümüz, üni<strong>ve</strong>rsitemizin özellikle Türkiye Bilimsel Teknolojik <br />
Araştırma Kurumu (TÜBİTAK) <strong>ve</strong> Türk Standartları Enstitüsü (TSE) ile <br />
yaptığı protokollerle, ilgili kamu sektörü destekli lisansüstü disiplinler <br />
arası programların açılmalarını desteklemektedir. Bu yeni açılacak <br />
disiplinler arası lisansüstü programlarda yerel, bölgesel, ulusal <strong>ve</strong> <br />
uluslararası özellikler taşıyan projeler yapılacaktır <strong>ve</strong> projelerin en <br />
önemli çıktısı, Ar-‐Ge alanında çalışabilen insan gücü olacaktır.<br />
Enstitümüzde 14 anabilim dalı altında tezli olarak 12 doktora programı <br />
<strong>ve</strong> 14 yüksek lisans programı yürütülmektedir. 2013-‐2014 eğitim-öğretim<br />
yılı itibariyle, enstitümüzde 2330 yüksek lisans <strong>ve</strong> 656 doktora <br />
öğrencisi lisansüstü öğretimlerine devam etmektedir. Öğrencilerimiz <br />
eğitimleri süresince, bilimsel yeterliliği üst düzeylerde olan öğretim <br />
üyelerimizin danışmanlıkları altında son derece modern <strong>ve</strong> yeni Ar-‐Ge <br />
laboratuvalarında kaliteli lisansüstü çalışmalarını yapmaktadırlar. <br />
Üni<strong>ve</strong>rsitemiz son 5 yılda Üni<strong>ve</strong>rsitelerin Akademik Performansa Dayalı <br />
Sıralamasında (URAP) <strong>ve</strong> Girişimcilik endeksinde devlet üni<strong>ve</strong>rsiteleri <br />
Gebze Technical Uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity (GTU), the successor of the Gebze Institute <br />
of Technology founded in 1992, continues graduate le<strong>ve</strong>l education by <br />
raising its quality. Providing a focused education to produce science <br />
and technology, it aims transforming of R&D results of graduate studies <br />
into products or patents. This is the strategic objecti<strong>ve</strong> of the Graduate <br />
School of Natural and Applied Sciences. <br />
The need for training of researchers and skilled manpower in order to <br />
follow the rapid de<strong>ve</strong>lopments in the sciences and engineering can only <br />
be provided with research-‐oriented graduate programs. In Gebze <br />
region, there are 18 Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) and 35 R & D units <br />
that are in need of brainpower who are capable of researching and <br />
designing. For the realization of this goal, the de<strong>ve</strong>lopment of <br />
uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity-‐industry and uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity-‐public-‐private R & D cooperation <br />
need to be further strengthened as one of the important steps. <br />
Especially by means of the protocols with TUBITAK (The Scientific and <br />
Technological Research Council of Turkey) and TSE (Turkish Standards <br />
Institution) made by our uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity, the graduate school supports the <br />
establishment of interdisciplinary graduate programs. Local, regional, <br />
national and international projects will be carried out at these new <br />
interdisciplinary graduate programs and the most important outcomes <br />
of these projects will be qualified manpower who can work in the field <br />
of R & D. <br />
In our institute 12 doctoral programs and 14 masters programs both <br />
with thesis are carried out under 14 departments. As of 2013-‐2014 <br />
academic year, 2330 graduate students and 656 doctoral students <br />
continue their education. During their education, our students make <br />
graduate studies of high quality under the consultancy of our senior <br />
faculty members in new utmost modern and high quality R & D <br />
laboratories. As a result of these high quality studies, our uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity <br />
always ranks among top 10 public uni<strong>ve</strong>rsities in Uni<strong>ve</strong>rsity Ranking by <br />
Academic Performance (URAP) and entrepreneurship index within the <br />
