4.3 Million TL investment in early stage domestic smart
medicine technology
Technology Transfer Accelerator
Program (TTHP), which SEHIR
Technology Transfer Office
has been implementing since 2015,
continues to receive successful
results. So far, many entrepreneurial
initiatives have opened the door to
early stage technology investment,
and SEHIR TTO has again supported
RS Research İlac A.S. (RS
Research), which researches and
develops targeted cancer drugs
and drug delivery methods. RS
Research, which came together
with investors after the Technology
Transfer Accelerator Program for
the commercialization of technology
under the management of TTO,
succeeded to invest 4.3 million TL
from the ACT Early Stage Technology
Fund, which invests in early-stage
technology in Turkey. RS Research
plans to use the investment to
develop various cancer drug
molecules to be applied by patented
‘drug carrier’ technology and to
conduct human clinical trials.
Patented pharmaceutical
technology brings a new solution
that will reduce side effects
Cancer drugs to be developed
by RS Research’s patented drug
carrier technology can be passed
on to a much larger number of
cells and more than one different
tumor-bearing cells. In this way,
the effectiveness of the medicine
increases with the cancer, and
the side effects such as hair loss,
fatigue, negativities in other organs
are minimized. Decreased side
effects and shortened duration of
treatment increase the quality of life
of cancer patients.
The number of cancer cases is
expected to increase by 70% by
2030
According to the World Health
Organization, 14 million new
patients and more than 8 million
deaths each year are the leading
cause of death worldwide. Experts
say that by 2030, they expect to
see a 70% increase in annual new
cases of cancer. There are many
different ways to treat cancer.
However, the drugs used for cancer
treatment also damage healthy cells
other than cancer cells, and the
patients who have cancer treatment
experience various side effects and
discomfort during the treatment and
the quality of life is decreasing.
