HOPES RAISING WITH SMART DRUGS
An important part of the immune system, the lymphoma originating from lymph glands, is the most
common of blood cancer all over the world. Due to the presence of too many subtypes, correct
identification of the lymphoma type directly affects the quality of life and quality of life. Prof. Dr. Siret
Ratip of Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital Hematology, says that 80 percent of treatment outcomes
in patients with early stage lymphoma have been reached. Especially in recent years, with the
widespread use of smart drugs is expected to achieve much more successful results in the treatment
of lymphoma in the future.
One of the most common types of
cancer in the world, lymphoma
is one of the unknown cancer.
It is known that he did not show a
hereditary transition. But there is
little evidence that we have developed
lymphoma as a result of what we do
or do not do. Moreover, the presence of
over 60 subspecies allows the mystery
of the cause of the lymphoma to be
preserved. Stating that all the cancers
as well as the signs that can provide
early diagnosis for lymphoma should
be taken into consideration, Expert
Hematologist Professor Dr. Siret Ratip,
Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital informed
on “September 15th World Lymphoma
Awareness Day”.
The exact reason is still unknown
The vast majority of patients with
lymphoma have no definite cause.
However, a small proportion of patients
are thought to have inherited or
acquired immunodeficiency disorders,
some chromosomal disorders, Epstein-
Barr virus infection, and a helicobacter
virus on the side leading to lymphoma.
Apart from these, previous exposure of
the patient to radiation due to medical
or other reasons, and chemotherapy
are also among the risk factors for
lymphoma. Smoking is also responsible
for some types of lymphoma. Therefore,
it is thought that the risk of developing
lymphoma is also lower in people
with strong immune system who
maintain healthy lifestyle, especially
good nutrition, and are protected from
infections.
is seen more in adults than in children,
the frequency of seeing increases with
age. Malignant tumors can develop
in the lymph nodes that are found in
many parts of the body including the
neck, groin, armpit, abdomen and
chest. So people usually go to a doctor
for a lymph node that is growing and
growing. In addition to the swelling that
can occur in the neck, in the groin,
or under the seat, fever, night sweats,
loss of appetite and weight loss are
among the complaints that can be
seen in the patient. However, many of
the cause of the swelling is not the
lymphoma, Professor. Dr. Siret Ratip
said, “Arrhythmia, neck, swelling in the
crotch region of the doctors come, but
we know that many swelling is not the
cause of the lymphoma. Some viral
or bacterial infections can also cause
swelling.” For this reason, if the lymph
nodes are enlarged for no reason and
continue to grow, thorough examination
is necessary to distinguish them from
simple infections
Chemotherapy is in the first place in
treatment
In order to diagnose lymphoma, it is
necessary to take a biopsy specimen
from the lymph node or bone marrow.
Tomography or PET tomography
is performed to show the spread.
Declaring that chemotherapy and stem
cell transplant were the first place in
the treatment of the disease, Dr. Siret
Ratip said, “The type of chemotherapy
and the duration of the disease and the
condition of the disease is determined.
With chemotherapy treatment,
successful results are achieved in a
significant proportion of patients. In
this way, we can benefit from highdose
chemotherapy and stem cell
transplantation.”
Smart drugs promise hope
Recording that he focused on targeted
therapies, Dr. Siret Ratip said, “Classical
chemotherapy is an adjunct therapy. In
addition, new drugs that are developed
according to the biology of the disease
come to the forefront in certain types of
lymphoma. Although these drugs are
currently used in treatment-resistant
patients, they are likely to be used
as first-line treatment options in the
coming years. We hope that with the
many new derivatives developed in this
area over the past decade, promising
results will be achieved in the success
of treatment.”
Watch your neck, crotch, underarm
swellings!
Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
is divided into two groups, the disease
