NAHT NAHT NAHT NAHT
Naht
Naht
Naht is an art that cutting of a Arabic calligraphy or a
pattern with a fret saw from wooden floor.
In Naht art, walnut, ebony, marin, birch, rose, paddy are
cut. Naht, Kakma, Kündekâr which carving techniques are
combined and processed as wooden decorative objects,
are used as original decorative works today. In the mosque
ornamentation, wood cutting was started to be applied
especially in the Arabic calligraphy.
Researches have revealed that the Turks who lived in
Central Asia before Islam were found in sculpture and
carved ornamentation. In these works, marks of Chinese
and Indian art have been seen. However, the fact that the
Islamic religion does not allow the art of making sculpture
has led to the progress of Naht “wood cutting and carving
art” between Muslims and Turks.
After the Turks accepted Muslims, Naht art developed
more in Turkestan. In later periods, the carvings of the architectural
ornaments that the Great Seljuk State had dominated
were widely given to the carving workmanship.
During the Seljuk and Beyliks periods, Naht preserved the
importance of cutting and engraving art and brought the
best examples of this art to the big centers such as Erzurum,
Harput, Beysehir and Konya.
At the time of the Ottoman Empire, except the Arabic calligraphy
in the art of engraving and Naht wooden cutting,
motifs of ornaments and flowers that we call rumi and
hata’i, and the motifs of the flowers which are shaped by
the way the animals are stylized. The interior and exterior
parts of the architectural works are decorated by the masters
of this art. The main application areas are mosques
and mihrab and pulpit of tombs, desks, door, windows, cabinet
doors, drawers, chests, spoons, coffee tables, kavukluk(shelve
on which is put a hat), writing utensils.
