In Times of Need, Doctors answer the Call
As the month of April begins, finals seem to loom right around the corner. As the
sun shines brightly during the days, on the back of our minds NBME’s and departmental
exams seem to be a dark cloud that serve as a reminder that we will have to study rather
than sit on the Rynek during these glorious Spring afternoons. But beyond finals, with
our diplomas from this University in our hands one day, our purpose will be to play
a part of a bigger picture within humanity. As future members of the health care profession,
in addition to adhering to the Hippocrates Oath, society worldwide sees us as individuals committed to helping our
fellow man. Medical professionals will always be in need to some degree all over the world. And as the world changes
and undergoes natural disasters or man-made civil war or genocide disasters, doctors are answering the call in these times
of needs. The following articles are written to remind you during these years of studying that post graduation, an integral
part of your profession will be to provide help where needed. Since humanity will always be in a state of sub-par health,
may these articles give you ideas of places that will welcome your medical knowledge partnered with your compassionate
heart now and for many years to come.
Doctors without Borders
(MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIERES)
Society has glorified the hero. The modern-day hero is
a person that goes out of his or her way to stand up against
the odds and fight against oppressors and aid those in need.
In the land of fiction, superheroes are people that uphold
these ideals. However, in the real world, soldiers, doctors,
policemen, and firefighters are the ones who protect the
masses. In isolated poor societies, oppression and sickness
often go unaddressed because the people that live in
these societies often fail to realize their rights as human
beings. However, there is hope for those in need. A group
of true real-life heroes have taken it upon themselves to go
into these societies and help those in need. These people
form an organization called Medecins Sans Frontieres.
medical school, their residency experience, life experience,
and good will, these doctors venture into foreign lands
and aid those who need it.
If you are a doctor that truly cares, consider joining
‘Doctors without Borders’ and helping those who need
it. They have gone above and beyond their duties to help
people regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
At times, these doctors have brought humanitarian
issues to the world stage. They are truly the heroes of today’s
society. For more information please check out their
Doctors without Borders is a non-profit organization
of doctors that goes into other countries and helps those in
need. They provide medical care services and supplies to
those that are stricken by national disasters, excluded from
society, and hurt by armed conflict. They are an organization
that truly has the best interest of people in mind.
The amazing thing about the doctors that participate
in this organization is that they uphold the core concept
of being a doctor. They are not doctors because of glory,
money, or women. The reason the members participate in
this organization is because they truly care about others
and want to help them. Armed with knowledge gained in
