Report on MISTiA’s Activities in 200859ConferencesIn 2008, MISTiA organised 5 conferences, attended by 489 guests.– A local government – government and parliamentary debate “Legal Inconsistencies as a Barrier Impeding Activitiesof Local Governments”Tomaszowice, 18 th February 2008, participants– A conference „Evaluation in Local Government – Utopia, Reality or a Beginning of a New Road”?Krakow, 27 th October 2008, 45 participants– Conference „Education Financed by the Local Government – Experiences and Impressions”Krakow, 17 th November 2008, 70 participants– Conference ‘How to Minimise the Phenomenon of Social Marginalisation and Exclusion? – Good Practices, ProvenSolutions”Krakow, 21 st November 2008, 80 participants– Conference „Environmental Protection in the Investment Process after Changes in Law”Krakow, 24 th November 2008, 171 participantsContestsContests organised by MISTiA are aimed at promoting active and innovative local governments from the Małopolska Region.Good management practices identifiable during the contests are awarded and promoted among interested parties. This way,our contest contributes to the popularisation of benchmarking in the local government administration.A clever municipalityMISTiA awarded institutions from the Region which made the largest investment into improving qualifications of their inhabitants.Winners of the contest were selected on the basis on the criterion of participation of staff working in the municipal institutions,public agencies, NGOs and entrepreneurs operating in a municipality in our training and conferences and membership in theForums operating at MISTiA.A Model Public Office in the Małopolska RegionIn 2008, in cooperation with the Office of the Head of the Małopolska Region, MISTiA organised the fourth edition of the contest“A Model Public Office in the Małopolska Region” in order to promote a model of friendly administration oriented towardsimproving internal procedures that ensure transparent operation and higher quality customer service as well as projects andactions taken by local government units oriented towards developing informational society. The contest was open to all municipaloffices, county offices and organisational units of local government seated in the Małopolska Region. The Panel of the Contestgave one main prize and awarded five winners.Collaboration Vectors of the Małopolska RegionThe contest promotes the best cases of collaboration between local government entities and NGOs in the Region. The contestis open to all local governments having Programmes for Collaboration with NGOs adopted in the previous year in the form ofresolutions. The chapter of the contest evaluated innovation, advancement and/or degree to which the programmes had beenimplemented. Three local governments having the best collaboration with NGOs were awarded.Business activitiesAs in the previous years, the <strong>Małopolski</strong> Institute of Local Government and Administration run its business activities in 2008,including:− provision of hotel services,− rental of lecture and training halls,− rental of audiovisual equipment,− rental of equipment for simultaneous interpreting,− sale of local government-related publications in soft and hard copies,− comprehensive conference services,− printing services.All the revenue generated from its business activities were assigned by the Institute in full for realisation of its objectives specifiedin the Statute.
