This preserve was founded <strong>in</strong> 1968 by<br />

Tasker and Beula Edmis<strong>to</strong>n who <strong>to</strong>gether<br />

first saw these flowers <strong>in</strong> 1957 on Easter<br />

Sunday. The Desert Lily bulbs lie underground<br />

and will often wait for many years<br />

wait<strong>in</strong>g for enough moisture <strong>to</strong> emerge.<br />

Rare, remote and special!. To f<strong>in</strong>d the<br />

sanctuary, take the Desert Center exit<br />

off Interstate 10, then drive about seven<br />

miles northeast of <strong>to</strong>wn on the Desert<br />

Center-Rice Road, a.k.a. State Route 177.<br />

annual UCCE Master Gardener workshop<br />

on Saturday, March 18th from 9:00 a.m.<br />

<strong>to</strong> 2:00 p.m. The workshop, “Water Wise<br />

Garden<strong>in</strong>g,” is given <strong>in</strong> conjunction with<br />

the Liv<strong>in</strong>g Desert and will cover a variety<br />

of important subjects, all of which will help<br />

you with your water friendly desert garden.<br />

This is a hands-on workshop so feel free<br />

<strong>to</strong> br<strong>in</strong>g your gloves! A flyer with more<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation is attached. The Liv<strong>in</strong>g Desert<br />

p.m. the UCCE Master Gardeners will give<br />

a talk about “Grow<strong>in</strong>g Citrus: How To’s for<br />

the Desert.” This is one <strong>in</strong> a series of classes<br />

on every third Thursday of the month<br />

at the Cathedral City Library. The speaker<br />

will be UCCE Master Gardener Susan<br />

Kr<strong>in</strong>gs. The library is located at 33520<br />

Date <strong>Palm</strong> Drive <strong>in</strong> Cathedral City. The<br />

<strong>to</strong>pic of grow<strong>in</strong>g citrus is <strong>always</strong> a popular<br />

one, so don’t miss this!<br />

And, on Friday, March 17th from 9-10<br />

a.m. UCCE Master Gardeners will give a<br />

free class on “Compost<strong>in</strong>g” at the LaQu<strong>in</strong>ta<br />

Wellness Center. The speaker will be<br />

delightful UCCE Master Gardener Jerry<br />

L’Hommedieu. The Wellness Center is<br />
