THE DESERT LILLY makes an appearance.
This preserve was founded in 1968 by
Tasker and Beula Edmiston who together
first saw these flowers in 1957 on Easter
Sunday. The Desert Lily bulbs lie underground
and will often wait for many years
waiting for enough moisture to emerge.
Rare, remote and special!. To find the
sanctuary, take the Desert Center exit
off Interstate 10, then drive about seven
miles northeast of town on the Desert
Center-Rice Road, a.k.a. State Route 177.

Headlining the activities is the second
annual UCCE Master Gardener workshop
on Saturday, March 18th from 9:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m. The workshop, “Water Wise
Gardening,” is given in conjunction with
the Living Desert and will cover a variety
of important subjects, all of which will help
you with your water friendly desert garden.
This is a hands-on workshop so feel free
to bring your gloves! A flyer with more
information is attached. The Living Desert

On Saturday, March 4th, Friends of the
Desert Mountains is sponsoring the Coachella
Valley Wildflower Festival at the Santa
Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National
Monument Visitor Center off Highway 74

is presenting a free class on “Backyard

p.m. the UCCE Master Gardeners will give
a talk about “Growing Citrus: How To’s for
the Desert.” This is one in a series of classes
on every third Thursday of the month
at the Cathedral City Library. The speaker
will be UCCE Master Gardener Susan
Krings. The library is located at 33520
Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City. The
topic of growing citrus is always a popular
one, so don’t miss this!
And, on Friday, March 17th from 9-10
a.m. UCCE Master Gardeners will give a
free class on “Composting” at the LaQuinta
Wellness Center. The speaker will be
delightful UCCE Master Gardener Jerry
L’Hommedieu. The Wellness Center is
