Help Save Ken and Randy’s Home,
I wanted to bring your attention to an important
fundraiser called “Help Save Ken and Randy’s
Home”. This fundraiser has been organized
for Randy Schecher-Bowers, who recently lost
his husband Ken Schecher-Bowers in a tragic
accident. Randy has been a valued member
of the LGBTQ+ community for a long time,
and has contributed significantly to various
community and
veteran affairs.
Randy has been an active Amvet officer and has played a crucial
role in organizations such as Palm Springs Gay Veterans and Desert
Stonewall Democratic Club. He has been instrumental in increasing
the positive visibility and inclusion of gay veterans in Veteran’s Day
Parades and ceremonies held on Memorial Day. Additionally, he has
contributed to the VFP Peace Pole program.
Considering his valuable contributions to the community, it’s important

“The AI Revolution – Shaping Tomorrow’s World with Technology”
PALM SPRINGS – February 14, 2024– The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce is
excited to announce its upcoming seminar focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 9:00
a.m. – 12:00 pm. at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum. The Museum is located
at 140 Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. Admission to the seminar is $40.00 per
person which includes lunch.
The seminar will feature two industry experts, Mark Talkington and Peter Loforte.
Mark Talkington is a seasoned journalist who embraced digital medial at its start
after a decade in print, including five years at the Desert Sun. He helped launch
ESPN.com, then transitioned to Microsoft as a key member of the MSN homepage
team. He also founded the Palm Springs Post, a 100% digital community news outlet
and began to focus on using AI to revitalize local journalism.

Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero
announced that Jonathan Nyce,
73, of Collegeville, Pennsylvania,
was sentenced today to 97
months in prison, three years of
supervised release, and a $500
special assessment for carrying out
a years-long scheme to defraud
pet owners of money by falsely
claiming to sell drugs that could
cure canine cancer.
“In shopping these worthless ‘drugs’
to desperate pet owners, Jonathan
Nyce’s actions were both criminal
and cruel,” said U.S. Attorney Romero.
“He deliberately exploited people’s
emotions, their love for their ailing dogs,
purely for his own financial gain. Many
people consider dogs members of their
families, so they’re especially vulnerable
to such schemes. For defrauding his
victims and thumbing his nose at the
FDA, justice demanded that Mr. Nyce
be held accountable.”
The case was investigated by the Food
and Drug Administration’s Office of
Criminal Investigation with assistance
from the Consumer Protection Branch of
the Department of Justice and is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States

Here are just a few other major fires
over the last year:
Democrats on fire with Good trouble!
In Florida last month, Democrat Tom Keen
flipped a Republican-held state House seat by
running on protecting abortion access with the
overwhelming backing of independent voters.
Last year, Democrat Donna Deegan won the
Jacksonville mayor’s race -- in a city that Ron
DeSantis won by 11 points in 2022 -- marking
just the second time Democrats have won a
mayor’s race in the city in the last 30 years.
In New Hampshire, Democrat Hal Rafter beat
Republican Jim Guzofski in September by 12
points in a district that leans six points more
Republican than the nation overall. In May,
Democrat Marc Plamondon won by 43 points in
a district where Democrats had a 23-point edge.
In Ohio, voters turned out in huge numbers
to vote for Issue 1, a state constitutional
amendment codifying abortion access -- even
as Republican J.D. Vance won the state by six
points in 2022.

Waymo of fire with bad troubles
Waymo issued a software update for its selfdriving
taxis after two incidents in Phoenix,
Arizona, involving a pick-up truck being
towed. The collisions were described as a “rare
scenario” and resulted in no injuries. Waymo
immediately investigated and found that the AVs
incorrectly predicted the motion of the towed
vehicle due to its persistent orientation. The
software update was deployed remotely starting
on Dec. 20. Waymo followed proper procedures,
informing authorities and engaging with the
NHTSA. The update comes amidst increased
scrutiny of the AV industry, including recent
attacks on Waymo vehicles in San Francisco.

Chinatown neighborhood. The incident occurred

The Palm Springs Air Museum is a living
history museum dedicated to educating the
public about the role Air Power played in
preserving American liberties and way of life.
The Museum preserves, exhibits, and flies
aircraft from World War Two, Korean War,
Vietnam War and the Global War on Terror. A
good portion of the aircraft in the collection are
in flyable condition.
The historic Rock House, also known as “Pil-
O-Rox,” located at 66-050 Third St. in Desert
Hot Springs1. It was built by Colorado mining
businessman Lee Watkins between 1947 and
1949 using local rocks1. The house is one of the
last remaining rock structures in the city1. The

Desert Hot Springs Historical Society purchased
the Rock House five years ago and spent more
than $200,000 in donations to fix it up, including
$25,000 from the city last April1. The Rock
House is now open to the public as a museum,
visitors center, and small-events venue1. The
dedication ceremony took place on January 20,
2024, and it was the first time the public was
allowed to visit the property.
