There are lots of answers to the question of “Why Bodrum?”.
Ancient Greek poet Homeros named Bodrum as
the "land of everlasting blueness", while Cevat Şakir, who
known as the Fisherman of Halicarnassus referred Bodrum
as a place to live in peace, rather than rest in peace in another
place.
KING MAVSOLOS’ MAUSOLEUM; MAVSOLEION
From ancient times to the present, Bodrum is a residential
area where is worth seeing. It was built on the foundations of
Halicarnassus, which was the most famous city in its era with
its five thousands years history. It is known as a place which
societies fought for and couldn’t share throughout its history.
Mavsolos, who was the governor of ancient Karya area
which involved today’s Muğla and a part of Aydın, ruled the
area for 24 years by moving control center to Halicarnassus.
Accepted as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, King
Mavsolos’ Mausoleum Mavsoleion waits for its visitors as
an open-air museum in Bodrum center. The word “Mausolea”,
which is current used for mausoleums comes from Mavsolos’
name.
