uhøflige over for de<br />
ældre. Det er det<br />
indtryk, man har af<br />
de unge nutildags.<br />
På grund af de gamle fordomme<br />
og de nye, som bl.a.<br />
er opstået i kølvandet på<br />
PISA-undersøgelsens resultater,<br />
overses imidlertid<br />
de gode sider ved både<br />
ungdomskultur og skolevæsen.<br />
Som f.eks., at en klasse i<br />
11. årgang på Duborg-Skolen<br />
deltager i European<br />
Studies Project (ESP).<br />
ESP blev oprettet på<br />
baggrund af konflikten i<br />
Nordirland og er i dag med<br />
til at øge kontakten og forståelsen<br />
mellem Europas<br />
unge.<br />
Også for lærerne<br />
Projektet er også til gavn<br />
for lærere, da disse får et<br />
indblik i andre måder at<br />
tænke og arbejde på. Økonomisk<br />
støttes projektet af<br />
EUs Comenius-program.<br />
Duborg-Skolens ESPklasse<br />
samarbejder i år<br />
med en række skoler rundt<br />

Duborg med i europæisk projekt<br />
Environmental engagement:<br />
Interested - but lazy anyway<br />
Modern young people<br />
of today are divided<br />
concerning their<br />
opinions of the environment.<br />
It’s uncertain,<br />
when and if a<br />
renewed engagement<br />
in environmental<br />
problems will happen.<br />
A new survey, carried out<br />
at the Duborg-Skolen in<br />
September-October 2003,<br />
yields new facts. Only half<br />
of the interviewed did<br />
show any interest in the<br />
environment.<br />
Laziness plays a great role<br />
in this. The question is<br />
whether young people of<br />
today are only a consumers’<br />
generation - or a sleepy<br />
giant which just has to<br />
be woken up to face a new<br />
and difficult financial situation?<br />
In the last ten years there<br />
were many UN environmental<br />
summits. Beginning<br />
with the breakthrough in<br />
Rio de Janeiro in 1992, going<br />
on to the Kyoto-Deal in<br />
1997, the summit in Johannesburg<br />
last year and the<br />
recent summit in Milano.<br />
They forgot the youth<br />
The politicians agreed on<br />
several issues, e.g. deals<br />
about the climate and the<br />
bio diversity. But they forgot<br />
one relevant subject:<br />
They forgot to focus on<br />
the engagement of young<br />
people in environmental<br />
protection. We’re all aware<br />
of the environmental enga-<br />

Important but boring<br />
But what is the situation<br />
today? To answer that<br />
question, a survey was carried<br />
out in some 8th through<br />
10th forms and among<br />
students from the 11th to<br />
13th forms at the Duborg-<br />
Skolen.<br />
We asked 71 pupils and<br />
students about their views<br />
on the environment, and<br />
57% showed an interest in<br />
it. They said that the environment<br />
is one of the most<br />
important parts of our-eve-<br />
ryday-lives.<br />
Surprisingly, none of the<br />
interviewed said, that the<br />
environment is essential to<br />
our future.<br />
The uninterested pupils<br />
and students thought, that<br />
the topic was too boring,<br />
and that positive engagement<br />
would not change<br />
anything.<br />
Only a few<br />
Some were even without<br />
any opinions whatsoever.<br />
Even though there were interested<br />
pupils and students,<br />
- but then again, only<br />
a small fraction is active<br />
in environmental organisations<br />
- at present approxi-<br />
mate 9,9%!<br />
Is that an answer to environmental<br />
damage?<br />
Deposit of cans<br />
Most people know that the<br />
deposit of cans, e.g. beer<br />
cans, should make our environment<br />
cleaner, but many<br />
people are convinced of,<br />
that the government only<br />
wants to earn money.<br />
This is, together with the<br />
complicated procedure of<br />
incineration, probably the<br />
reason why 60,6% are negative<br />
towards any selective<br />
deposit. Young people<br />
are simply too lazy to return<br />
their cans.<br />
These statements tell us<br />
that, better information<br />
and a good system could be<br />
the golden keys to improvements.<br />
When people get information<br />
and understand<br />
that improvements are necessary,<br />
then most people<br />
will accept changes.<br />
Difficult to predict<br />
Those who are already positive<br />
about the recycling<br />
of cans, believe, that this<br />
behaviour shows the right<br />
way for the ecological way<br />
of thinking.<br />
To make any predictions<br />
for any future trend is difficult.<br />
There has usually been a<br />
Slupsk, Polen, i Daugavpils,<br />
Letland, i Milano, Italien<br />
og i Limerick, Irland.<br />
Kommunikationen foregår<br />
på engelsk via internettet.<br />
Her er der oprettet et<br />
projektinternt »Discussion<br />
Board«, hvor enhver elev,<br />
som er med i projektet, kan<br />
starte eller deltage i en diskussion.<br />
Selvfølgelig er bl.a. musik,<br />
sport og skole en vigtig<br />
del af ungdommen og dermed<br />
emne på dette diskussionsforum.<br />
Diskuteret bliver<br />
næsten alt fra polske<br />
paver over irsk rugby til filosofiske<br />
spørgsmål.<br />
Unge som mindretal<br />
I år er »Ungdommen som<br />
minoritet« valgt som projektets<br />
overordnede emne,<br />
og til foråret vil der udkomme<br />
en avis herom.<br />
Avisen vil beskæftige sig<br />
med, hvilken rolle ungdommen<br />
som minoritet har<br />
inden for et samfund. De<br />
efterfølgende artikler er<br />
nogle af de bidrag, Duborg-Skolens<br />
ESP-klasse<br />
yder til denne særlige ESPavis.<br />

again - and when? For how<br />
long will young people stay<br />
