For the purpose of elucidating this hypothesis t emper atur e and
precipitation were compared for the years of finding. The paper contains
a list of all Danish findings together with a table of the totals
of temperature and precipitation for the period May-September of
the years when the fungus was found.
No conformity, however, was established for the climates of
these years. Most of the years had a total temperature below normal,
computed from the mean temperature for the period 1886-1925.
The supposition that fruit bodies mainly appear in hot years there ­
fore has to be rejected.
