3.6 Forebyggelse af intravaskulære kateterrelaterede
infektioner
Centrale venøse katetre er blevet essentielle redskaber til behandling af kritisk og
kronisk syge patienter, da katetrene giver mulighed for administration af væsker,
medicin og ernæring samt udtagning af blodprøver og hæmodynamisk
monitorering. Disse katetre er dog årsag til infektioner i blodbanen associeret med
en betydelig morbiditet og mortalitet. Mange af disse infektioner kan i dag
forebygges.
