3.6 Forebyggelse af intravaskulære kateterrelaterede<br />

infektioner<br />

Centrale venøse katetre er blevet essentielle redskaber til behandling af kritisk og<br />

kronisk syge patienter, da katetrene giver mulighed <strong>for</strong> administration af væsker,<br />

medicin og ernæring samt udtagning af blodprøver og hæmodynamisk<br />

monitorering. Disse katetre er dog årsag til infektioner i blodbanen associeret med<br />

en betydelig morbiditet og mortalitet. Mange af disse infektioner kan i dag<br />

<strong>for</strong>ebygges.<br />
