KARENS KLUMME Karens klumme Det kræver et godt helbred at være patient… Karen Bonde Christiansen Stud. med. Det er en stille forårsaften. Udenfor pipper fuglene godnat, og solens stråler farver himlen orange. Mine tanker flyver. Om lidt er jeg færdig med studiet, og så venter livet som læge. Gad vide, hvordan det bliver? Alting bliver jo et arbejde – også selvom jeg opfatter mit valg af studie og dermed fremtidige arbejde som en livsstil. Der tales så meget som livsstilsfaktorer i sundhedsvæsenet. Det er blevet et af vores fokusområder, når vi skal udvikle vores kompetencer. Undskyld, jeg er bare allergisk over for at snakke bløde værdier ihjel. Empati, kommunikation og almindelig sund fornuft skal altså ikke altid snakkes helt i stykker. Nogle gange ville det fisme være rart, om det blev praktiseret, frem for bare at blive talt i stykker! Ja, undskyld mig. Men jeg ser rødt, når jeg hører om fokusområder, kompetencer og kommunikation. Det er tomme ord, så længe vi ikke formår at efterleve ordene i deres allerbedste betydning, så fri mig for snak om de tre ord. Og det var så lige et af de berømte sidespring… Her til aften kom jeg nemlig til at tænke på dengang, jeg selv var patient i det danske sundhedsvæsen. Jeg kan ikke diske op med en vild og drabelig historie med vilde skader. Jeg skal blot belemre dig med mine tanker om den gang, da jeg så uklogt sad og læste en sen nattetime. Jeg blev sulten og ville skære mig en skive brød. Jeg nåede dertil, hvor jeg skar mig i fingeren. Et lille hul, men det ville bare ikke stoppe med at bløde – ja ja, Peter Licht (klinisk lektor, thoraxkirurgisk afdeling, red) jeg ved godt, at al blødning standser for kompression, men da blødningen fortsatte, endte jeg på skadestuen. På skadestuen blev der taget meget pænt imod mig, selvom det var midt om natten. Jeg fik skrevet skadekort og var nu kommet i kategorien patient. Jeg måtte se i øjnene, at jeg denne gang var på sygehuset som patient og dermed stod på den forkerte side af skranken. Min finger gjorde avs og blødte fortsat, da jeg tog plads i venteværelset. Heldigvis kom en venlig sygeplejerske snart og hentede mig. Hun rensede såret (det kunne jeg jo selv have gjort, men lidt service skal man jo have). Nu skulle jeg bare vente på lægen, der skulle komme og sætte to – og du læste rigtigt TO – sting i min finger (det kunne jeg vel selv have gjort). Nå, men lægen kom og præsenterede sig – og blev så kaldt til noget andet og mere alvorligt. Jeg ventede igen. Og ventede og ventede og ventede – og fortrød, at jeg ikke havde medbragt min bog. Og ventede. Og så kom lægen tilbage. Hun forespurgte, om jeg ønskede at blive bedøvet, men som den Tarzan, jeg jo er – og fordi jeg faktisk ikke gad vente længere på at få syet to sting – afslog jeg, og hun fik syet mine to sting. Historien når at runde de seks timer og en solopgang, før jeg kunne sige tak for god behandling og forlade skadestuen med en smukt indpakket finger og to latterlige små sting, som jeg dog ikke ville have været foruden. Og hvad lærte jeg så af den omgang? Tja, jeg lærte flere ting. Dels, hvis jeg skal skære mig i fingeren en anden gang, vil jeg sætte pris på at kende en læge, der har grejet og evnerne til at lappe mig sammen hjemme ved køkkenbordet. Og dels lærte jeg, at livet som patient kræver god tålmodighed. Patienterne skal vente hele tiden. De skal vente på, at lægen får tid til at se dem. Skal de henvises til yderligere udredning, skal de vente på indkaldelse til det. Skal de have foretaget flere forskellige undersøgelser, skal de vente på flere forskellige indkaldelser og måske endda møde op forskellige dage. De skal vente, når de møder op til undersøgelsen, fordi lægen er forsinket, eller udstyret er optaget af andre og mere alvorligt syge patienter. De skal vente på svar på undersøgelsen – og gerne op til lægen, så de kan sidde i venteværelset, indtil de bliver kaldt ind og kan få deres svar. Derefter skal der så tages stilling til eventuelt yderligere udredning og behandling, som de så også skal vente på. Og i mellemtiden kan de så glæde sig over, at lægen meddeler dem, at »dit hjertekardiogram er helt normalt, og det er dine blodprøver også, så nu vil jeg henvise dig til Holtermonitorering, og så må vi jo snakkes ved, når resultatet af den foreligger. Indtil da seponerer jeg lige din digoxin. Har du nogle spørgsmål til det?« Tja, jeg ved ikke med dine bedsteforældre. Men min farmor aner hverken, hvad hjertekardiogram, Holtermonitorering eller seponering betyder, og hun husker ikke lige på stående fod, hvilken en af pillerne der er digoxin. Til gengæld ved hun, at hun skal vente… Og min farmor er hverken småt begavet eller dement. Hun er en helt almindelig, ældre, hjemmegående husmor. Det er en del af den virkelighed, vores kommende kunder (patienter) bliver budt, når de kommer ind i butikken (hospitalet). Der er ikke noget at sige til, at det kræver et godt helbred at være patient i det danske sundhedsvæsen. Side 12
