TS2 SATELLITE COMPLETES SATELLITE<br />
PROJECT FOR US ARMY<br />
TS2 Satellite Technologies has completed the<br />
tender documentation for JCC-I/A and a <strong>satellite</strong><br />
network project for the Marines bases in Afghanistan.<br />
The government contract concerns establishing<br />
and maintaining full communications in new<br />
locations for all soldiers stationed there during<br />
next two years. The USA is going to transfer 4.500<br />
Marines from Iraq to Afghanistan as early as at the<br />
beginning of 2009. TS2 specializes in providing<br />
global <strong>satellite</strong> communication services in areas<br />
with poor telecommunications infrastructure. TS2<br />
communication among the bases is possible thanks<br />
to the simultaneous lease of bands on the Intelsat<br />
10-02, Intelsat 901 and ArabSat Badr-4 <strong>satellite</strong>s<br />
and it additionally equips its customers with Thuraya<br />
and Iridium <strong>satellite</strong> telephones, which are often the<br />
only means of communication in remote locations.<br />
INDIA<br />
VTU INSTALLS VSAT EQUIPMENT<br />
The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU),<br />
which is the first in the country to adopt EDUSAT<br />
facility of Indian Space Research Organisation<br />
(ISRO) for 50 of its affiliated institutions,<br />
in October signed a second MoU with ISRO to<br />
bring 100 more colleges under the programme.<br />
Under the EDUSAT project, the VTU has set up<br />
studio to transmit expert lectures for all affiliated<br />
colleges through DTH reception system. In<br />
the first phase, 50 institutions have received the<br />
VSAT equipment from the ISRO in two batches.<br />
TATANET TO OFFER VSAT<br />
EQUIPMENT ON LEASE<br />
Tatanet India has decided to offers its VSAT solution<br />
for SME customers in smaller towns and remote<br />
areas, especially those that are surrounded by<br />
mountains or are on higher ground, where connectivity<br />
is still not as easily available, specifically for<br />
last mile connections. In such a scenario, VSAT can<br />
ensure ready broadband access on a continuous<br />
basis and Tatanet officials claim that their product<br />
offers an uptime of 99.97 per cent. Tatanet is now<br />
offering its product on lease to customers. The<br />
deployment charges for the rented equipment are<br />
Rs 30,000 and there is a monthly rent of Rs 2000.<br />
C&W SIGNS MOU WITH BSNL<br />
FOR VSAT DEPLOYMENT<br />
Cable&Wireless India and Bharat Sanchar Nigam<br />
(BSNL) have signed a MoU TO leverage each other’s<br />
strengths by sharing their networks and other<br />
telecom infrastructure. While Cable&Wireless India<br />
will help BSNL expand its footprint globally and<br />
provide more competitive services to its customers,<br />
in return BSNL will support Cable&Wireless India<br />
spread its tentacles across the country. Additionally,<br />
the two parties will share with each other<br />
their portfolio of telecom services including basic,<br />
leased line and local lead services, Multiprotocol<br />
Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual Private Networks<br />
(VPN) services, Internet, Very Small Aperture<br />
Terminal (VSAT), mobile and broadband services<br />
on a preferred client basis, said the companies.<br />
MIDDLE EAST<br />
CETEL TAKES CAPACITY ON<br />
NSS-12 SATELLITE<br />
SES New Skies has signed a new capacity deal with<br />
CETel on the upcoming NSS-12 <strong>satellite</strong> to serve<br />
what CETel perceives as growing demand in the<br />
Middle East and Africa for VSAT services and corporate<br />
networks. SES New Skies’ NSS-12 <strong>satellite</strong><br />
is scheduled for operational service in the second<br />
half of 2009 and will replace the existing NSS-703<br />
<strong>satellite</strong> at the orbital location of 57 degrees East.<br />
CETel, a teleport and <strong>satellite</strong> service provider in<br />
the Middle East, Africa and Europe, already operates<br />
teleport services on the NSS-703 <strong>satellite</strong> via<br />
a 7.6m antenna. From their teleport facilities, CETel<br />
is offering dedicated VSAT services for corporate<br />
and governmental networks, GSM backhaul<br />
services as well as hosting and managed solutions.<br />

SUPERNET SIGNS ONLINE DEAL<br />
WITH MCB AND MNET<br />
Supernet, MCB and MNET have signed the<br />
first ever tripartite agreement to provide online<br />
purchase of internet hours via MCB Virtual Banking<br />
facility. The product packages that Supernet<br />
offers to MCB are exclusively for the MCB Virtual<br />
Banking customers. Supernet, Pakistan’s leading<br />
Data Network Operator and Internet Service<br />
Provider (ISP), offers a wide range of networking<br />
solutions to its customers which include Transit<br />
Internet; GSM Backhaul via <strong>satellite</strong>; Broadband<br />
VSAT; WiMax wireless access for Metropolitan<br />
Area Networks; inter city data connectivity on<br />
Fiber Optic as well as digital microwave radio<br />
