ENCODERS FOR IPTV SERVICE<br />
Optibase’s advanced encoders have been selected by UTStarcom as<br />
part of an end-to-end integrated IPTV solution to Sri Lanka Telecom.<br />
Sri Lanka Telecom will use UTStarcom’s RollingStream advanced IPTV<br />
solution, which incorporates Optibase’s H.264 streaming platforms, to<br />
offer the country’s first ever triple play services. Optibase’s H.264 Media<br />
Gateway (MGW) 5100 encoding platforms, renowned for their top video<br />
quality and quick deployment, offer a highly reliable streaming solution.<br />

CHUNGHWA <strong>TELE</strong>COM REVISES IPTV TARGET<br />
Chunghwa Telecom has revised its year-end subscriber target for its<br />
IPTV service from 1.2 million to 800,000, according to research firm<br />
Media Research Asia. The operator’s Olympic coverage was reported to<br />
have boosted IPTV subscriber numbers by around 15%, and Chunghwa<br />
currently has about 570,000 users with average revenue per user of TWD<br />
107 per month. The operator is also planning to spend TWD 30-31 billion<br />
(US$ 943-975 million) in IPTV-related capital expenditure this year.<br />

TRUEIPTV RELAUNCHES OPERATIONS<br />
TrueIPTV Co, the IPTV arm of True Corp, has completed business and<br />
organisational restructuring. It now has a new shareholding structure,<br />
a clearer business role and definition of the target market segments for<br />
IPTV and TrueVisions’ conventional cable and <strong>satellite</strong> Pay-TV services.<br />
Paisit Vatjanapagorn, general manager, said TrueIPTV has relaunched<br />
as a “premium service” targeting affluent Thais and foreigners living in<br />
Bangkok. The company is offering 12 TV channels including multi-language<br />
soundtracks, knowledge-based programmes and karaoke-ondemand.<br />
It hopes to double the subscriber base to 6,000 early in 2009.<br />
THE PHILIPPINES<br />
ECI <strong>TELE</strong>COM PROVIDES BROADBAND ACCESS TO PLDT<br />
ECI Telecom has signed an agreement for the supply of broadband<br />
access solutions to Philippines Long Distance Telephone Company<br />
(PLDT). ECI’s Hi-FOCuS-5 Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN)<br />
central office and outside plant solution was chosen to support PLDT’s<br />
nationwide expansion of high-speed internet DSL services for both<br />
business and residential customers over the operator’s existing copper<br />
infrastructure. Part of ECI’s 1Net business framework, the Hi-FOCuS<br />
is a carrier grade, future-proof MSAN solution, providing PLDT with<br />
the optimal transition path to a next-generation network solutions as it<br />
looks to deliver new services such as IPTV and VoIP in the future.<br />

AMINO SIGNS GLOBAL DEAL WITH<br />
ERICSSON FOR IPTV INTEGRATION<br />
Set-top box manufacturer Amino Communications has signed a global<br />
deal with Ericsson to integrate its IPTV systems with the telecoms<br />
giant’s new software. The news came as Amino also unveiled a plug-in<br />
solution enabling telecom operators to provide their IPTV subscribers<br />
with personal video recording (PVR) capability without the need for hard<br />
drives. The solution allows users to attach a USB drive to their existing<br />
set-top box and access their files, transferring them to view on any<br />
set-top box. The PVR concept will be offered over the next few months.
