SOLOKONZERTE
CONCERTOS
O
Robert Schumann
Konzert d-Moll
für Violine und Orchester
herausgegeben von Georg Schünemann
Orch.: 2 · 2 · 2 · 2 - 2 · 2 · 0 · 0 - 2 P. - Str.
„Oft waren Sie, als ich schrieb, meiner
Phantasie gegenwärtig“, schrieb Robert
Schumann an Joseph Joachim, der ihn
zu dieser Komposition angeregt hatte.
Joachim kamen angesichts Schumanns
Krankheit jedoch Zweifel an dem Wert
des Werkes. Er untersagte testamentarisch
eine Uraufführung bis zum 100. Todestag
Schumanns 1956. Diese wurde aber
dann, mit einigem editorischen Aufwand
verbunden, auf 1937 vorgezogen.
Das Thema des Mittelsatzes war wohl
die Grundlage für Schumanns Geistervariationen,
der dritte Satz hat den Charakter
einer stattlichen Polonaise. Yehudi
Menuhin, der die Uraufführung der unbearbeiteten
Version von Schumanns
Solostimme spielte, sah in diesem Stück
„die Brücke zwischen dem Beethovenund
dem Brahmskonzert.“
‘You were often on my mind when I
was writing’, wrote Robert Schumann to
Joseph Joachim who had encouraged
him to write this concerto. In view of
Schumann’s illness, however, Joachim began
to have his doubts about the value of
the work. In his will, Joachim prohibited
the first performance until the 100 th anniversary
of Schumann’s death in 1956.
After detailed editorial work, the premiere
was brought forward to 1937.
The theme of the middle movement
probably formed the basis of Schumann’s
Geistervariationen (‘Ghost Variations’), the
character of the third movement is that of
a grand polonaise. Yehudi Menuhin who
performed the world premiere of the unedited
version of Schumann’s solo part
saw in this piece ‘the bridge between
Beethoven’s and Brahms’ concertos’.
