The solar collectors produced 487 kWh/m2/y. The total electricity demand of the system
including all controllers and pumps was 11868 kWh/y. The system performance factor was
2.59 based on the useful heat leaving the storage. The performance factor for the heat pump
was 2.65 and the storage efficiency reached 82%. The total system losses are about 6700
kWh/y, which equals to 17% of the total produced energy.
Many more systems have been monitored and reported in T44A38. The results will appear in
coming technical reports and in publications to conference (SHC2012 in San Francisco and
SHC2013 in Freiburg)
For some systems, simulation will be made in order to be able to optimize the combination of
solar collectors and a heat pump in real conditions.
For this purpose T44A38 has produced a detailed reference framework for comparison
purposes and that is described in detail in [4,5] and is worth to know.
Conclusions
The IEA SHC Task 44 HPP Annex 38 “Solar and heat pump systems” has been working on
solar and heat pump combinations for domestic heating since January 2010 with about 40 to
50 experts from 12 countries.
In Subtask A, a survey of market available systems has been conducted and the report is now
available [6].
More than 20 monitored systems in different countries during 1 to 3 years will be reported
with monthly performance factors, covering a wide range of system configurations.
