The International Symposium on extraordinary<br />
Iloods, The Extremes 01 the<br />

volcanism, including eruptions and<br />
geothermal processes<br />
landslide related events<br />
Papers are solicited on this theme con <br />
cerning:<br />
the physical processes involved<br />
the predictability of extreme floods<br />
the short-term forecasting of extreme<br />
floods<br />
the estimation of flood frequency<br />
case studies of pre-historic, historie<br />
and contemporary extreme floods<br />
the environmental consequences e.g.<br />
as geomorphologica lagents or as natural<br />
polluters.<br />
There will be an afternoon excursion on<br />
Tuesday July, 18, which is included in<br />
the Symposium. A three day post-symposium<br />
excursion to various sights of<br />
interest in this field will start on July<br />
20 and end on July 22. There will also<br />
be a possibility to take a one day excursion<br />
on July 20. All three symposium<br />
excursions will visit areas that<br />
have experienced extreme floods.<br />

Symposium theme<br />
The theme of the Symposi u m is extreme<br />
and extraordinary floods, with<br />
particular reference to mountainous<br />
regions and extreme climate zones. A<br />
particularfocus will be on the role of<br />
snow and ice and other interacting<br />
forces in the generation of extreme<br />
f loods, e.g. caused by:<br />
extraordinary combinations of hydrological<br />
and climatic conditions<br />
failure of natural dams, including<br />
