31 - Marinovplates called by Hauser "collection brushes" must be called rather "collecting electrodes"for the case that the static electricity produced by influence is "sucked"by these electrodes (cf. p. 14 and take into account that Baumann's electrodes arenot in the form <strong>of</strong> combs as is usually the case with the influence machines). Butas, according to me, the electric charges on these electrodes exert also the torqueon the wheel (see sect. 5), they must play also the role <strong>of</strong> the electrodes in anelectrostatic motor and thus must be also called "driving electrodes". As in the machineare not only two but more electrodes (in the middle machine in fig. 10 one cancount 9 such electrodes and surely they are at least 10), it has not become clear tome whether the same electrodes serve as "collecting" as well as "driving" electrodes,or some are collecting and some are driving electrodes. I suppose that the last suppositionis more probable, as, according to me, the potential <strong>of</strong> the collecting electrodesis low while the potential <strong>of</strong> the driving electrodes is high. Howeveralso the condensers connected to the driving electrodes must be charged by the machineitself. If we should assume that the "driving condensers" are charged by ourinitial push, nevertheless they must be additionally charged, as they should loseF.v 14-
