Saaremaa
Getting to Saaremaa and Muhu is very easy
– just pick your mode of transport: car, bus,
plane, bicycle or yacht. First of all, the sea
must be crossed. the new ferries are roomy
and swift, and in summer depart every 35
minutes. Built in 2010-2011, they accommodate
160 passenger cars and up to 600 passengers.
A smaller ferry serves the next-door island
of Hiiumaa, carrying 25 cars and 150
passengers.
those arriving on private yacht can choose
their own route – ports for docking in Saaremaa
and Muhumaa exist in sufficient number.
For a few weeks in cold winters, the island
can be reached by ice road.
A 33-seat SAAB340 aircraft also flies a
regular route between the capital of Saaremaa,
Kuressaare, and the Estonian capital
tallinn. In the summer, Kuressaare can be
accessed by air also from Stockholm. the
Kuressaare airport is fully in line with international
requirements (the longest runway is
2000 m long and there is an IlS system) –
charter and private flights are also welcomed
here.
the largest cities in Estonia are connected
with Kuressaare with comfortable coaches,
most offering a free Internet connection.
Saare county has over 270 accommodation
providers with a capacity of 4,500, ranging
from five-star hotels to tent sites. The county
has a total of nine spa hotels, which continue
a resort tradition that goes back 170 years.

with both traditional fare and classic international
cuisine offered.
