RCI India – a growing community with a vision
History of RCI India
RCI India was founded in 1999 after Mary Ann
Kuebel had met Dr. Thomas Abraham in Kerala.
Meanwhile it has 167 members: 55 of them have
been awarded the TCI-Certificate and 13 have
reached the TCI-Diploma level. Furthermore Dr.
Thomas Abraham is the first Indian TCI Graduate.
In February 2011 ten diploma holders have participated
in the Introductory Colloquy for graduation.
Many European graduates and diplomaholders
have made the necessary training possible.
Since January 2010 the Indian Training Committee
(INTRAC) is responsible for TCI training in
India.
Cooperation between RCI India
and European graduates
A Teaching Staff for RCI India has been established
in November 2010, consisting of European and
Indian Graduates. It will support RCI India in all
questions concerning TCI training.
Presently training programs are predominantly
offered in various centres in Kerala and Mumbai.
Apart from this the RCI organization is present in
the states of Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu
and Karnataka.
In March 2011 there will start a new Basic Training
in a Predetermined Training Course, the 5th one.
In March 2012 a new Secondary Training will
begin with the Introductory Concept Workshop in
Kottayam.
Other TCI-activities in India
There are a lot of different activities of the “TCIfamily”
in India. Here are two examples:
• A national TCI-Conference takes place each year
lasting 3 days.
• Dr. Thomas Abraham edits a TCI-journal from
2006 onwards. The title is “Indian Journal of
Theme-Centred Interaction”.
Thus it seems that TCI in India will grow more and
more and will touch and change the society.

RCI is an active organization with active interaction
and cooperation between the board and the
various committees.
All activities are carried out with shared responsibility.
The policy guidelines appear in the document
‘Autonomy and interdependence’ (2008), in
which the mission of the organization, the board’s
executive tasks and the cooperation with and
between the committees are all laid out.
The board has three key tasks:
1. connecting: stimulating dialogue in all activities.
2. guiding: carrying out and furthering the
development of the organization’s mission and
vision, taking on as well as sharing the leadership,
optimizing the contribution of each committee in
alliance with the other committees as well as with
the individual members of the association, and
creating favourable conditions for this cooperation.
3. growing: the key words here are innovation,
re-newal and development (of the vision and of
the organization). Our vision of the growth and
development of the organization is a consistent
one. The mission is always the starting point. Each
year we choose one aspect of the mission as the
focus for our discussions and actions.

The shared responsibility of board and key groups
is worked out in concrete plans and actions, which
include forming agreements, translating these
into concrete plans of action, carrying these plans
out and then evaluating the results.
• The “Activities” committee produces a program
for members and other interested people, including
a TCI-café 4 times a year, study days and
a conference. The “Communication” committee
updates the website, produces the Newsletter 3
times a year and also produces the Dutch TCIjournal
2 times a year.
• RCI Lage Landen does not organize any TCIseminars
and TCI-trainings itself, but instead has
delegated this job to training institutes and individual
instructors. Their programs are accredited
by RCI Lage Landen and RCI-international, fulfil
all criteria of the quality standards and are implemented
by accredited TCI-instructors.
